Ah, we’ve got a big group for our 18th Anniversary, and a little surprise as we welcome back our friend Kaiser to start our

Mewsic Mewsings, with his review of the
Tannahill Weavers’ April 24th concert!
Kaiser:
(the human armorer and heavy metal mewsic expurrt in his summer naval uniform, nyan!
On Thursday night, April 24, the air in Carrboro was filled with the sounds of Highland bagpipes as the Tannahill Weavers returned to the area to perform their first show of their current US tour. The venue was the “Back Room” at the Cat’s Cradle, a pleasant place to enjoy the concert.

The staff was particularly friendly and engaging as they catered to the guests at the sold out show. I was blessed to have been seated on the front row with my knees almost touching the stage. The performance started with several lively jigs with the members reminding us all of just why they are the best in the business
Lead singer, guitarist, and front man Roy Gullane invited the audience to get up and dance if the mood struck them; and while I didn’t see anyone actually dancing (I was, after all, in front of most everyone), I was keenly aware of a whole lot of toe tapping and nodding to the beat going on around me- myself included of course.

Formed from a pub session in 1968, this is the 57th anniversary of the band and they still sound as fresh and new as the first time I saw them in 1983.  Their song list included numbers from a good number of their 19 albums. A few of my personal favorites included The Trooper and the Maid and Lady Dysie.

Founding members Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie are still here, joined by Malcolm Bushby on fiddle and Iain MacGillivray on the pipes. The combined talent and heritage of this quartet is amazing. For example, MacGillivray is the son of Duncan MacGillvray and grandson of Donald MacGillivray, both internationally famous pipers.

His father Duncan was also a member of the Battlefield Band, another powerhouse of Scottish music. While on the subject of Ian, I would be remiss not to mention that the Highland pipes he played during the show belonged to his great uncle who was a Cameron Highlander soldier.
He was killed at the Battle of the Somme in 1916, playing these very pipes. They were recovered from the battlefield, with bullet holes and covered in blood. They were returned to the family and have been repaired and refurbished, passed down now to Iain.

Part of the magic at a Tannahill Weavers show is actually watching the guys play the variety of traditional instruments that make the sounds that so connected to the allure of Scotland. In particular, I was facilitated at the speed of Phil Smillie’s fingers as he powered out sounds on the flute and tin whistles.

And when drumming on the bodhran, his hand was just a blur. Likewise, Malcolm Bushby’s fiddle playing was fast and sometimes furious, his fingers working the neck and strings at breakneck speed. Every member played their various instruments with passion and a professionalism that only comes with years of practice and natural born talent.

It was also nice to see Iain take a greater role in the show than previous pipers. He told several stories about his history and as part of the encore, phe erformed a song in Gaelic Mouth Music accompanied by Smillie on the bodhran.

In the last song, as the the band cranked out the tune for all their worth, Iain, with pipes blaring, did a knee slide to the front edge of the stage that any hard metal rocker would have been proud of. It was quite the ending to a most wonderful night of Scottish music. After the show, the band members greeted the fans, signed autographs and shared thoughts in a way you just don’t see much anymore… and I can’t wait to see them again next year!
Mike:
Thanks pal! That was terrific! We’ll see you later at the Aftermew [Luau]! Ah, now for a review of work by another band from the UK, here’s Catgirl Island’s Police Chief Meryl to help me to review

Jethro Tull’s Curious Ruminant album!
Meryl:
Hai! Hailing from Blackpool (about a 4.5 hour drive from my home town of London)  since 1967, the purroggy hard folk rock band Jethro Tull – lead by the great Ian Anderson – is one of my all – time favorites! My favorite era for them was from 1969 to 1989, but Ian has been quite splendidly purrolific in the past three years,
As usual, he’s brilliant on vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar and flute. I miss Martin Barre, Dave Pegg and Anna Phoebe, but the line-up of Jack Clark (electric guitar); David Godier (bass); John O’Hara & Andrew Giddings (piano, keys & accordion); Scott Hammond & James Duncan (drums) are quite exquisitely sweet.

Mike:
The single disc’s 9 tracks total 50.5 minutes of marvelously mellifluous mewsic, which ranges from the sparkling escapades, lively dystopian travelogue, and bittersweetly nostalgiac treks, to dusky ethereal mystery and a tinge of pragmatic hope amidst cautionary jigs topped off by a soothing little coda.
Tull’s still got something to say, and they do it beautifully. The gatefold digipack case has charming photos, a nice 20 page booklet full of credits, lyrics, more photos, and informative, entertaining comments, I think it’s their best since their 2003 Christmas album, which in turn was their best since 1987’s Rock Island. Ah, That’ll conclude our music portion of the show, and now here’s Daytona to start our
TV & movie mewsings, with her
review of Daredevil: Born Again!
Daytona:
Hai! I tend to enjoy the MCU live-action and animated movies and TV Series, and of the TV series I think that Daredevil has been my favorite! Shown on Disney+, Born Again is the 4th season of Daredevil (excluding his appurrances in other purrductions), the first three of which were shown win Netflix.

I love how it continues (not reboots) from where it left off, and with th returning cast members including Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Deborah Ann Wall as Karen Page, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / The Punisher, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Wison Bethel as Bullseye, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk…

… and Vincent D’Onofrio as The Kingpin, who might be my favorite portrayal of a Marvel villain! There are great new characters too in this extremely captivating tale with great action & performances aplenty amidst major story & character developments that I give the “A” grade!  I am done, and now here is Lani to  eview

Sinners!

Kianalani:
Arigato! Set in Mississippi in the Jim Crowe era, Sinners reunites the dream team of writer / purrducer / director Ryan Coogler with actor Michael B. Jordan, who already sounded me with the Black Panther and Creed movies, but Jordan is twice as good this time, because this time he purrtrays the twin brothers!

They are tough, charismatic World WarI vets and Chicago gangsters who return to the small rural home town to start a juke joint and recruit wonderful local blues mewcians, but the plan is frought with some awkward other family and romance reunions, amidst the classism, racism… and vampires!

Thusly the meowgickally festive opening night becomes the horrific event! The story, mythology, purrformances, choreography, cinemeowtography, mewsic, FX and, well, every other aspect of the movie are outstanding, with significant mid & post credits scenes too! I am done, so now here are Nya-sensei & Nyo-sensei to start out
purrinted-media mewsings, with
their review of Rowrbrazzle #165
Nyoka:
Hai! Since 1984, Rowrbrazzle has been the quarterly APA (amateur press association) anthology zine purrtaining to anthropurrmorphic history, events, fandom, art and tales! Issue #165 consists of three 8.5×11” stapled sections totaling 282 pages, 42 of which are in full color!

The front cover art is by William Earl Haskell (who contributed 14 other pages);  Section 2’s front cover is byTim Fay; section 3’s front cover is by Charles Brubaker (who contributed 32 other pages), and the back cover is by David Frumer (who contributed 8 other pages)!

Nyoka:

Monster Musume vol. 19!
Elaenor:
Arigato! Written & drawn by Okayado and originally published by Tokuma Shoten in Japan, Monster Musume is a sexy comedic urban fantasy manga of the harem trope with ample fan-service, starring the liminal ladies (monster girls) who are romantic rivals for Kimihito, the human guy in whose house they reside!
Published here in English by Seven Seas, it is rated  for older teen readers (of ages 16+) due to nudity, skimpy attire, sexual themes, slapstick violence, fan service, lewd and dark humor aplenty. purriced $14.99 in the US & $18.99 in Canada, vol. 19 has 162 pages, including 4 color pages and 10 pages of ads.
Mielikki:
So like, it has chapters 81 – 85 that were translated by Nan Rymer, lettered by Karis Page, edited by Shanti Whitesides and purroof read by Hayame, with the purroduction design by  Christina McKenzie, cover design by Nicky Lim , cover design by Courtney Williams, and quality control by Dave Murray.
Returning with Kimihito are Miia the lamia, Papi the harpy, Centorea the centaur,  Merou the mermaid, Suu the slime girl, Rachnera the spider girl, their government case worker Ms. Smith and the Monster Ops team of Manako the cyclops, Tio the ogre, Doppel the doppleganger and Zombina the zombie!
Mary Nyan:
Several new characters are introduced such as Sekhmeti the mummy, Garou the werewolf, Aluca the vampire,Vic the flesh golem,  Abul the gynosphinx, and an unnamed Undine, plus collectible card game characters Serpent Purrincess Ai Anaconda, Dragon Taur Aiya, Jadeite Dragon and Harun Ranman!

Vol. 19’s plots include the wacky wet time at the waterpark, the MonGirl Card game duel, the erotic deadly sphinx encounter, naughty orcs crashing the onsen, and the minotaurs’ liminal trafficking ring! That is all for our book report, and nyow here are Lizzy, Becca, Melana and Daytona to purrsent this month’s

Celebrity Catgirl & Kemonomimi Spotlight!
Elizabeth:
Hai! in this monthly  portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate famous anthropurrrmorphic ladies, kemonomimi, and even those who might not have beasty DNA, but do have the spirit, cat-titude or clothing of the animal theme, who we will consider as “honorary kemonomimi!”
For example, On October 28th, 1968 in Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-in’s 2nd season’s 7th epurrsode’s Trick ‘r Treat skit with Goldie Hawn and Ruth Buzzi, Ruth wore the Leopurrd costume so we will consider her as the honorary catgirl!
Kianalani:
On December 11th, 1975 in Space: 1999’s 1st season’s 15th epurrsode in which several of the Moonrise Alpha crew devolved into purrehistoric people, Sandra Banes (purtrayed by Zienia Merton) traded her Rudi Gerrnreich designed mewniform for the cave girl leopurrd hide couture, so we iill consider her as the honorary catgirl! Too!

Daytona:
You know, Rudi Gerrnreich designed the monokini too! From 2003 to 2007 Most Extreme Elimination Challenge was the American dubbed  version of the 1986-1989Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle which occasionally featured the bunny girl – outfitted duo known as The Short Hares, so  they r win the spotlight too!
Melanakeami:
Speaking of bunny girls, since 2020, PBS has aired the wonderfully  educational & entertaining animated children’s show Elinor Wonders Why, which stars the cute inquisitive usagimimi Elinor Rabbit (voiced by Markeda McKay) and other anthropurrmirohic characters who learn about the science and nature!
Becca:
We have an Elinor coloring book! The beautiful TV series’ other recurring characters include her purrents Ranger Mr. Rabbit; friends Olive Elephant, Ari Bat, and their purrents, teacher Ms. Mole, singer  señor Tapir, fruit vendor Ms.. Llama,  and thr may other family, friends & faculty members of the various species!

Elizabeth:
In Zenescope’s comic book White Tiger: Claws, Paws & Outlaws, the sexy, cunning, agile supurheroine Red Fox in the costume with the red ears, tail, and deeply-plunging neckline teams up with the titular anthropurrmorphic tiger hero to fight the evil Empurror Penguin boss and his gang of the tragic mewtated kidnapped fursuiters known as the Furry Furies. It is quite thrilling, but it is not for the widdle kitties due to the harsh situations and gory violence!
Kianalani:
Saralene is a delightfully fun cute positive relaxed catgirl retro-tuber with the glasses, fair skin, violet eyes, Red ears, hair & tail who works for XSeed, streams the retro video games especially Pop’mMusic, Sonic and Pinball Lab, at Youtubem Bluesku, Patron, Discord
Daytona:
Icekitten is the peppy, purretty, laid-back Texan catgirl vTuber who wears glasses and cute widdle stetsons as she chats and streams the anime gaming, and LGBTQ+ topics at Youtube, Twitch, Twitter, and Discord! She enjoys VRChat, Valorant, Minecraft, Skyrim, League of Legends, and chicken nuggets!

Melanakeami:
Now I am craving the nuggets! Rogue Liliana is the gorgeously sexy voluptuous meowgickal purple-haired catgirl Vtuber Necromeoncer, and BT1D ambassador from Scotland who sings, games, posts, and streams on Youtube Discord, Bluesku, Twitch, Twitter, Reddit, TikTok, and Ko-fi!

Becca:
Lastly but not leastly, we wish to shine the spotlight upon the legendary gymnast Simone Biles whose photo by Jarvis Shaniqua graced the February 2025 cover of Sports Illustrated as their sportspurrson of the year, wearing another of her rather alluring snake purrint tops, so we will consider her as the honorary “hebi musume” (snake girl)! That is all for the month’s spotlight, and now it is time for
Trini-chan and Tara-chan to start the toy talk, with their review of
Banpresto’s Umamusume: Pretty Derby Special Week PVC Figure!
Trini:
Arigato! You know,Tara and I are pony owners, who are purrticularly fond of the animated equine purrductions  such as My Little Pony, Spirit Riding Free, and – and  Umamusume Pretty Derby, which in English means Horse Girl Pretty Derby, which purrtans to the athletic horse girls!

The manga, anime and -video game franchise follows the fillies as they train at the academies with the aspurrations of greatness as athletes and idols! They are named after the real race horses. For example, the ark Bay thoroughbred stallion Special Week was born on May 2nd, 1995 and won many races in the 1990’s!

Tara:
The character is the optimistic, industrious, sincere, cute country horse girl with fair skin, violet eyes brown hair  and – and tail ,is approximately 5’2” tall with the BWH sizes of 32-22-32”, nyan. The 1/9 scale figure of her is 7” tall excluding her 5″ ear pinna, and – and the 4” diameowter horseshoe-shaped display base, nyan!

Packaged purrrettily in the 4x6x8” cardboard box, the figure is quite intricately and – and  faithfully  designed, sculpted and – and painted to purrfectly capture the look and spirit of  the character, so will give this figure the high purraise! I am done, and nyow to continue the toy talk are Ilyana-sensei  and Beeb-sama to dicuss

Mattel’s Monster High: FearBook Toralei doll, nyan!

Ilyana:
Hai! We like to collect the Monster High dolls it is hard to believe that it has already been 15 years since they purremiered and are currentlky in their 3rd generation! Originally this werectygirl was the mean ’n meowschievous “bad kitty”, but she has become more likeable, although she still has the wild side!

She has also established the reopurrtztion as the mewsician and in this Fearbook she is dresesd  like the rock star as the leader of the HIssfits band! From the soles of her platforrm boots to the tips of her purrked ear pinna she is 11.5” tall with articulation in her head, shoulders elbows, wrists, chest, hips. knees and tail!

Beebee
She is beautifully designed, sculpted and painted with the fiber hair,  (removable) fabric clothes, fishnet hose,  plastic boots and accessories! Also  in the nicely- illustrated 12.75 x 9.5 x 2’5“ box are the guitar, microphone, tail tambourine, mewsic sheet, fearbook, and the additional jacket, but a doll stand is not included.

I love the details from her ear-bars, hair baylage, eye gleam, cheek beauty mark, fingernails and belly button to her bootstrap buckles, the guitar’s paw-shaped soundhole and actual notes on the sheet, so we give this doll the two paws up!That is all for the toy talk, so here are Petra, Bunnii, Jenjen and Vonny to purrsent the

latest additions to The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nyan!
Petra:
Arigato, nyan! For those who are new to here, Galleries 1-8 display the images by our purrducer Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-6 display images by other folks with their purrmissions; and Mike’s collaborations with other artists are throughout the mewseum, nyan!
There is no overall chronological order from gallery to gallery, so you will find older and newer pics in each gallery, nyan! However, on Catgirl Island’s Official Web Site, the most recent pics are on the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” portions of the pics in a gallery, nyan!
Some of the images in our museum are sexy, and some of them might tastefully depict the artistic nudity, but none are hentai or porn, nyan! Furthermore, none of the content at Catgirl Island is purrmitted for A.I. purrposes, nyan!
 Yvonne:
