TV, DVD & Movie Mewsings
with her review of Star Wars: Andor!
Meryl:
Hai! We have been rather pleased with the live-action and animated Star Wars TV series on Disney+, such as Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, Visions, The Mandalorian, Obi-wan Kenobi, and the Book of Bob Fett, but golly I think that the first season of Andor is the best one yet! It’s 12 epurrsodes are the purrequel to the to the 2016 movie Rogue One, which I think is the best Star Wars movie since 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back!
Created and purrduced exquisitely by Tony Gilroy, it purrtains to how the Rebel Alliance was formed  to oppose the Galactic Empire, and stars Diego Luna, who repurrises the role as Cassian Andor from Rogue One. It is the most serious Star Wars tale, dealing with the politics, economics, espionage, philosophy and motivations of the rebellion, with the captivating plot that unfolds with the slow burn and a grandly cinematic style!
The characters have a lot of depth! The rest of the brilliant cast includes Adria Arjona, Dave Chapman, Elizabeth Dulau, Gershwyn Eustach, Alex Ferns, Denise Gough, Kathryn Hunter, Alex Lawthor, Anton Lesser, Alastair Mackenzie, Faye Marsay, Ben Miles, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Duncan Pow, Sule Remi, Andy Serkis, Varda Sethu, Fiona Shaw, Stellan Skarsgard, Joplin Sibtain, Kyle Soller, Stanley Townsend and Rupert Vansittart.
Genevieve O’Reilly returns as Mon Mothma, and Forest Whittaker returns as Saw Gerrera! It is among the most thorough looks at civilian, corporate and government life in the Empire. It is  meowgnificent!  It even has nods to George Lucas’s movie THX-1138, and I think that it is the best live-action Start Wars TV series thus far, so I will give it the A as in Andor! Nyow for more of the Star Wars topic, here is Ellie-sama to discuss
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi!
Ellie
Arigato! As Meryl-sama noted, we tend to like the animated Star Wars TV series! Well, just like the various live-action Star Wars movies and TV series, the animated ones have been the mixed bag for me over the years. Although I did not care much for the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, I did like its animated sequence.
I did not care much for the 1985 Droids and Ewoks animated series, Tartakovsky’s 2003 Clone Wars series, or the 2018 Resistance series,  but I loved the 2008 Clone Wars movie and animated series, Rebels, Forces of Destiny, The Bad Batch, Visions, Galaxy of Creatures, Grogu and the Dust Bunnies, and Tales of the Jedi!
It is the animated anthology miniseries which aired on Disney+ in October! I expected to love it, because it was created by Dave Filoni and it fit right into the Clone Wars and Rebels era! Furthermore I  especially liked it because three of the episodes pertained to Ahsoka Tano, who is voiced by Ashley Eckstein!

She is my favoritest Star Wars character, and in this miniseries we meet her mom Pav-ti, who is voiced by Janina Gavankar! The other three episodes are great too, as they pertain to Count Dooku, who is voiced by Corey Burton! Also appearing in Tales of the Jedi are Yaddle, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Anakin, Mace Windu…

… Bail Organa, Capt. Rex, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Jocasta Mu, Darth Sidius, and other familiar faces! The art and animation are awesome, and the tales are thrilling and charming, but it also tragic and startling, so I will give it the A as in Ahsoka, and I hope there will be more of such Tales of the Jedi!  Nyow here isNyo-sensei  to discuss
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special!
Nyoka:
Hai! I have been very entertained by the live-action and animated movies, television series, shorts and specials of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I was quite pleased by the return of the Guardians of the Galaxy, who were last seen in the movie Avengers: Endgame! This time they try to cheer up Starlord with the purrfect gift for the Christmas holiday he introduced them to, Drax and Mantis plot to  bring him actor Kevin Bacon!

The cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter / Starlord, Pom Klementieff as Mantis,  Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Michael Rooker as Yondu in an animated flashback), Maria Bakalova as Cosmo, The Old 97’s as band on Knowhere, and Kevin Bacon as himself! The Holiday Special is very amusing with the zany action and visual FX aplenty!

The “suitmation” Groot does not look as good as the CG Groot, but it was okay, with a very playful quality amidst the festive lights and decorations. We finally get to hear Cosmo speak, and I think that Mantis steals the show, as we get to see more of her supurr powers, martial arts prowess, plus the major revelation about her which is the most poignant aspect of the special! I am done, and here is sis to discuss

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever!
Nyanko:
Arigato! Of course, we were curious as to how the new Black Panther movie would fare without the late star Chadwick Boseman, or if purrincess Shuri would inherit the role of the Black Panther as she did in the comics. Well, we had the utmost confidence given Marvel’s cinematic track record, that this sequel was directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler, and that so many Marvel-ous  actors were returning too, such as-
Letitia Wright as Shuri,  Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda: Danai Gurira as Okoye,  Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine: Martin Freeman as Everett Ross and the special appurrance by Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger! The story, design, purrformances, cinematography, FX and mewsic are as gorgeous as gorgeous can be!

Several comics characters make their impurressive  big screen debut, with  Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Michaela Coel as Aneka, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Mabel Cadena as Namora, Alex Livinalli as and Attuma! In addition to Namor’s beautiful undersea kingdom of Talokan, we get to see a lot more of Wakanda, plus Shuri’s Black Panther costume, Riri’s Iron Heart armor, and Wakanda’s Midnight Angels!

Almost as good the first Black Panther movie. this’un is brimming with highly significant developments, more Marvel-ous world-building, and the poignantly serious sad and tragic scenes along with the delightfully dialog-driven humor and the thrilling  action scenes on the grand scale at the pace that does nopt seem rushed! Make sure to not miss the mid-credits scene! Now here are Tami-san and Forma-san to review
Stargirl Season 3!
Ceresatami:
Of the live-action TV series that are based upon the DC Comics my favorites of the recent years have been Sandman and Stargirl. They are very different but equally great, as Sandman is the dark fantasy show whereas Stargirl is the costumed super hero show, and as such it is not only my favorite of the Arrowverse (including Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash etc) but I think it is the bestest live-action super hero TV series!

Brec Bassinger stars in the titular role as the leader of the younger new incarnation of the Justice Society of America in the charming town of Blue Valle,, Nebraska where she and her fellow teenage members and their families try to balance their everyday lives with the crime fighting. In season one they fight the Injustice Society, in season 2 they fought Eclipso, and in season 3 they investigate a super murder mystery.

I think season 1 started out greatly, season 2 was even better, and season 3 was even better better, but Sadly it seems that season 3 is also the final season. I think all of the cast and crew did an outstanding job, and purrhaps the MVP of the crew is writer / producer / show runner Geoff Johns, who was previously quite famous for writing wonderful comic books at DC!

Although Stargirl certainly deals with dark sinister stuff aplenty, from high school and family angst to the monsters villains and disasters, it has so much of the bright optimistic fun, whimsy and charm in addition to the thrilling colorfully costumed action scenes full of dazzling FX and stunts!
Formality:
Hai hai, in that regard I definitely prefer these adventures of the Justice Society to those of the live-action Teen Titans series or the Snyderverse Justice League. I cannot say enough great things about the wonderful cast, In addition to Brec as Courtney / Stargirl, it stars Trae Roman as her step brother Mike, Amy Smart as their mom, Luke Wilson as their dad Pat who pilots the Stripe mech, Yvette Monreal as Wildcat Ii…

Angelika Washington as Dr. Mid-Nite II, Cameron Gellman as Hour Man II, Alkoya Brunson as Jakeem Thunder, Hunter Sansone as the son of the villain known as  icicle, Meg DeLacy as Cindy the daughter of the villain known as Dragon King, Neil Hopkins as Sportsmaster, Joy Osmanski as Tigress, Stella Smith as their daughter Artemis, Joel Michale as StarMan, Jonathan Swift as The Shade
Ysa Penarejo as Jade, Tim Gabririel as Obsidian Keith David as Mr. Bones, Kron Moore as Beth / Dr Mid-Nite II’s mom, Gilbert Glenn Brown as Beth’s dad, Kay Galvin as cameron’s grandmother, Jim France as Calvin’s grandfather, King Orba as Pat’s friend Zeek; and there are appearances by numerous other heroes and villains in season 3, but I should not reveal much more or spoil any surprises!
Without spoiling any of the plot, I will just say that season 3 was so well written, with the great character development, sparkling dialgue, plot twists, more of the JSA mythology,  the great balance of the humor, drama and action, and I was very pleased with the season / series finale, although I sure do wish that it would be renewed for further seasons! Now we will turn The Mew over to Nemui-sennsei for her review of
The Fabelmans!

Nemui:
Shukran! Directed and co-written by Steven Speilberg, with a wonderful score by John Williams, The Fabelmans is a 2.5 hr. fictionalized semi-autobiography based upon Speilberg’s life between 1952- 1965, as the character Sam Fabelman tries to balance his filmmaking with his family relationships, school life, the boy scouts, and relocating to different cities.
The films’ brilliant cast includes Gabriel LaBelle as (teenage) Sam, Michelle Williams ashis mom, Paul Dano as his dad, Judd Hirsch as Sam’s great uncle, Seth Rogan as his parents’ best friend, Julia Butters as Sam’s oldest sister, Chloe East as Sam’s girlfriend, and so many other great actors who give such wonderful purrformances!

I daresay that I am quite enamored with every aspect of this movies, from the story, directing, acting, cinematography, mewsic and editing to the sound, art direction, purrduction design, FX, costumes, sets and locations! It has the purrfect balance of the humor and drama, so I will give it the A as in Amblin! Nyow for our next review, here is Mike to discuss
Clerks III!

Mike:
Arigato, Nemui-sensei!  Written, directed, edited by and starring Kevin Smith, Clerks III is the sequel to 1990’s Clerks, 2006’s Clerks II, and it is the 9th feature film set in his “View Askewniverse”. Dante (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) still work and play rooftop hockey at the Quick Stop store, where Jay (Jason Mews) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) still hang out and sell marijuana.

After Randal survives a heart attack, he decides to make a movie about his life, which is graced by many other familiar faces, new characters, and celebrity cameos! I’d rather not spoil any of the surprises, which result in some funny and poignant moments (especially with Rosario Dawson), but ultimately the movie didn’t quite wow me, and I give it an average grade of a C, the same grade I gave to Smith’s movie Jersey Girl.

Compared the other live-action feature films that Smith directed, I didn’t love Clerks III the way I love Clerks and Chasing Amy, or even as much as Dogma or Clerks II which I think are okay. However, I do like Clerks III a lot more than Mall Rats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Zack and Miri make a Porno, Tusk, and Yoga Hosers. I haven’t yet seen Big Helium Dog, Cop Out, Red State, or Kilroy Was Here.
The DVD includes the 115 min. movie, which has some nice special features, such as the audio commentary by Smith, O’Halloran, Anderson, Trevor Fehrman (Elias) and Austin Zajur (Blockchain); an introduction by Smith, the theatrical trailer, and nearly 30 minutes of deleted & alternate scenes. Ah, that’ll do it for or movie, TV & DVD reviews, and now here are  Tara-chan & Trini-chan to start our
collectibles and toy talk, with their review of Mattel’s
Monster High Clawdeen Wolf, Toralei and Frankie Stein dolls!
Tara-chan:
We have been the fans of the Monster High toys and tales since they were launched in 2010, which was quite the eventful year, because that was the same year that the Friendship is Magic era of My Little Pony began, nya! Two months ago, the product line was rebooted and re-launched again with the live-action movie, the new animated TV series, and – and the new merchandise such as the posable dolls and the play sets, nya!
This 2022 wave would be Generation 3 of the products, with the sepurrately-sold figures thusly far including Clawdeen, Toralei, Frankie, Draculaura, Cleo de  Nile, Lagoona Blue and – and Deuce Gorgon, nya. Toralei is the werecat, Clawdeen is the werewolf, and – and Frankie is the Frankensteined monster, nya. The packages have lovely art and – and information on the back, and include the posable doll, her pet, and – and several accessories, nya!
Toralei would stand 10.25” tall if she was flat-footed, but with the ears and – and the boots she is 11” tall, wearing the pleated plaid short skirt, cropped kitty tee, the ornate belt, mid-calf boots and – and Red bolero jacket, nya.The articulation is in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, knees and – and the tail, nya. She is accessorized by the backpack, microphone stand, phone, milk carton, can of cat food, and – and her pet cat Sweet Fangs, nya!
Trini-chan:
Clawdeen Wolf is of the same height and articulation (but no tail), wearing the Pink and Black tiger stripe blouse, Purple leopard print jumper, gold necklace and belt, loose Black socks, and the Purple high top sneakers with fangy Gold soles, She is accessorized by the Purple furry vest, glasses, phone, comb, purse, shoulder bag, bag of candy, and her Purple pet wolf pup Crescent!
Frankie (whose pronouns are they / their) appurrs to be a cyborg, made of various stitched-together human body parts and the mechanical left leg, but no tail. With her platform sneakers, she is 11.25” tall, wearing the pleated short plaid skirt, cropped short sleeve blouse, chain belt, sweater vest, lightning bolt-shaped  earrings and hair berets. Her accessories are the camer, photos, pizza slice, clutch bag, letter jacket, glasses, and her dog Watzie.
Each doll has the plastic body with the inny belly button and the long silky fiber hair. The garments, footwear and accessories are all removable. The dolls can be carefully balanced to stand without requiring a doll stand or a display base (which are not included), but I recommend getting one! It is so nice to see this wonderful franchise return and I hope that it will thrive again! I am done, so now here is Lani to discuss
McFarlane Toys Avatar Neytiri action figure!
Kianalani

Arigato! Portrayed by Zoe Saldana, Neytiri te Tskaha Mo’at’ite  (or just Neytiti, for short) is the Na’vi Princess of the Omaticaya Clan of the planet Pandora! Made by McFarlane Toys, this fine figure of the Blue alien catgirl is an inch taller than Mattel’s 6.5” figure of her from the 2009 movie. As she is approximately 10 feet tall, then this figure is of the 1/16 scale!
She is beautifully designed, sculpted and painted, with the freckles and markings that glow under a (not included) Black light. Also included are her knife, the bow the arrow, variant pair of hands, and the 2.5” (peg type) display base. The details are intricate, from her stripes and hair braids, to her feathered lei, eight fingers and eight toes!
I am very impressed by the exceptional articulation of the figure, with the 22 moving parts! The joints (many of which are the ball joints and double-joints) are in her neck, shoulders, uppurr arms, elbows, wrists, abs, waist, hips, thighs, knees, ankles, and her 3.75” tail, so I will give this figure the grade of the A as in Avatar!
There are also the separately-sold figure of her husband Jake Scully in his human / Na’vi hybrid avatar body, plus figures of other characters and critters from the Avatar movies. I have not yet seen the new movie Avatar: The Way of Water, but I bet that we will have the review of it for next month’s Mew! Now here are Daytona, Melanakeami and Beebee to mention
further Kemonomimi toys, statues, doll & figure findings!
Melanakeami:

purrinted-media mewsings, with her review
of The Demon Girl Next Door manga vol. 6!

Yvonne:
Arigato, nya! First published by Houbunsha in 2014, The Demon Girl Next Door is the comedic occult / urban fantasy manga series  of the four-panel format by Izumi Ito, which was adapted in to the anime TV series in 2019. The tale purrtains to the school girl Yuko who is the descendant of the demoness Lilith, nya!. Shuna’s Journey, nya!

Mielikki:
So like, Shuna’s Journey is the standalone 1983 full color graphic novel by my favoritest director Hayao Miyazaki, who co-founded Studio Ghibli and directed wonderful movies such as The Castle of Cagliostro, Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind, My Nighbor Totoro, Kiki’s delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo and The Wind Rises!
It is the tale of Shuna, the young prince of a poor people who are dying from the starvation and famine, so he rides his Yakull mount in search of a fabled lush land of plenty in hopes of finding desperately needed grain seeds. After a long odyssey, he frees two sisters from slavery, and they gratefully help with his agricultural expedition, but there are further hardships and threats to survive!
So like, it was only recently translated into English by Alex Dudok De Wit and published here by First Second as the  160 page, 8.75” x 6.25” x .75” dust-jacketed hardcover book, which is priced $27.99 USA & $36.99 Canada. if you have seen Miyazaki’s totally awesome Nausicaa manga and watercolor paintings, then you can expect the quite comparable beautiful quality, fur shur!
Not only is the art so rather gorgeous, but the 152 pages of manga include about two dozen full-page pics and nearly two dozen two-page spreads! Following this quite captivating, profound tale of poignant high adventure are the translator’s six pages of very informative notes. I will give this book my highest praise, fur shur! I am done, and now here Myayr and Ilyana-sensei to discuss

Section one’s B&W front cover art is by the APA’s Emergency Officer Steven F. Scharff; section two’s B&W front cover is by Jay Fosgitt, and the color back cover is by Resa Challender.

it had been the while since I have read Roger Zelazny’s tales, but I am purrticularly fond of his Amber series! The Art of Star Wars: Visions!

Jeannie:
Hai. Written by Zack Davison and published by Dark Horse, this full-color hardcover book offers the impeccably lavish look at the story, art and design of the Star Wars: Visions anthology mini-series  of nine animated shorts by some of Japan’s top anime studios.
All of the tales are meowgnificent, but I am purrticularly fond of the 19.5 min. epurrsode 8 “Lop & Ocho” which was written by Sayawaka, directed by Yuki Igarashi, purrduced by Geno Studio, and introduced the endearing heroine Lop, a force-sensitive usagimimi of the Lepi species.
Brimming with hundreds of illustrations, the 192 page 10.25” x 11.25” x .875” book is purriced at $49.99 US & $65.99 Canada. It is appurroximately .5 inches shorter and narrower than the Star Wars art books published by Abrams, and has no dust jacket, but it is every bit as impurressive.

The nine chapters purrtain to the characters, creatures, mecha, environments and FX. There is a forward by the series’ executive purrducers, and a five-page gallery of poster art. I am highly pleased with this beautiful, informative book. Nyow here are Lizzy and Becca to purrsent this month’s

We have two photos of Alexcia’s terrific “Torako Cosplay”! Born on an August 22nd on the planet Mau, Alexcia’s “fursona” character Torako Hitonare is the future child of Toraboushi and Abenti Gaiger a.k.a. Sailor Tiger / Sailor Mau! A dual-citizen of Earth and Mau, Torako’s blood type is O-, and her zodiac sign is Leo! Then into Gallery Five http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery5.html we are elated to exhibit two new illustrations by Mike! “Torako” is Mike’s gift art for Alexcia depicting that tora-musume tiger girl) dining at our island, where she is blissfully au natural, and about to enjoy the lobster and shrimp feast with the Pink lemonade at the beachside restaurant!
Lastly but not leastly is Mike’s latest Photoshop and mouse illustration of “Zel Mavet”, an original character created by our friend TonomuraBihttps://linktr.ee/tonomurabixwho was a guest of the March 2008 Mew! Zel is an impirial assassin with super powers. Purrhaps y’all have seen Mike’s prior pic of her https://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery8/24.html?
In that prior pic, Zel was undercover at the fancy gala event where she was profiling the (presumably bad) person whom she was hired to kill. In this new pic, she is in the dark corridor either on her way to or from the hit, armed with her energy sword and her own bio-energy powers! So, what do y’all think of all the new art?
