So, what have y’all been up to since last month’s mew?

My mewsual itinerary is compurrised of the mornings at the yoga studio and afternoons at the kyudo range; with the alternating evenings of purrsiding at the robotics club and teaching the belly dance at the Purrforming Arts Center. However, I have curtailed the international travels in the recent months, so my occasional weekend swimwear modeling has been limited to the local photo shoots.
Oh as mewsual, my drumming circle has been purrforming at the local matsuris, and my fishing charters have reeled in the delicious, nutritious bumpurr crop of the groupurrs, snappurrs, cobias and wahoos, nya! Tara-chan and I have brought the platters of filets for tonight’s AfterMew luau, nya!
During the summer break from my college classes, I have been helping onee-san with TsuriNekoMimi, caring for Emmy, Zuli, Jimbo, Wild Star Blaze*, and – and snapping the nature photos of the critters such as the cottontail rabbit, the black snake, the cloudless sulphur, and – and the red-shouldered hawk, nya!
*(paw note: Emmy and Zuli are Yvonne & Tara-chan’s pet cats; Jimbo and Wild Star Blaze are Tara-chan and Trini-chan’s banker ponies, and the S.S. TsuriNekoMimi is Yvonne’s 1985 Hatteras 60 Convertible motor yacht)
I cannot believe that it has already been the month since last month’s 14th anniversary Mew, and the year is half over! It is like we are in the hypurr time! Well, in the past month, as mewsual Lizzy and I have been busy pampurring the customers at our spa, taking care of our cats and our garden, and still finding the time for the dancing, sports and videos!
We hired more masseuses, so we still have free time aplenty! We have purrtaken of the late night hot salsa dance, and on those days when I am running with my Purrkour Club, she is at the golf club. We have been watching TV series such as Chihayafuru, Gugure! Kokuri-san, Mare of Eastown, The Demon Girl Next Door, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch!
Petra and I have been curating the art mewseum, attending the local cultural events, and winning the beach volleyball matches!  Aside from that schedule, I have been tending to the flowers, fruits and vegetable of my garden, and I have been baking the breads and cakes in both of my ovens for the mewseum cafe and the county’s food bank!
We are quite grateful for our rec league’s the event staff, officials, fans, journalists and the other teams who continue to up our game, nya! We are purrtiocularly grateful for the artists, volunteers, staff and the patrons of our art mewseum, nya. We are blessed to have such the wonderful creative community here in Mew Hanover County, nya!
Mary Nyan

Soon I will start to instruct the Summer Hula dance class at the Purrforming Arts Center. Meanwhile, Carerratia, Janyczsazsa have sewn for the cosplayers. That has included the individual costumes such as

Skarah the Valkyrie, Machina the Dragon, Raven the Pirate Princess, and the group cosplays such as
Konosuba and F

rame Arms Girl

I am eager to see the costumes! I have been helping my sister purrpare her magick shop for the Summer Solstice festivities, and attending some of the local sporting events such as Petra and Bunni’s beach volleyball victories when I am not busy at my gym and at my dojo, which just purroudly graduated yet another class! Howboutchoo, Mike?
I’ve mainly been reading, writing, drawing, watching anime and reruns of Star Trek, running in virtual races, and otherwise spending quality time with family and friends! Ah, we’ve got a lot on our plate, so let’s go ahead and jump right into —

The Monthly Celebrity Catgirl & Kemonmimi Spotlight!
Hai, in this monthly portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate catgirls, nekomusume and other kemonomimi of the various species in the famous international mythologies and the popular cultures!
They might include the shape – shifters, anthropurrrmorphic ladies, monster girls, and those who might not actually have beasty DNA, but do have the cat-titude or couture to be broadly considered by us to be “honorary” kemonomimi!
You know, catgirls purrmeated popular culture long before many people are aware. For example, in 1924 a purretty nekomimi appurred in author Kenji Miyazawa’s tale of

The 4th of Narcissus Month, and catgirls appurred in anime as early as director Mitsuyo Seos film Osama no Shippo!
Catgirl sightings became the bit more frequent in manga & anime after 1978 when Yumiko Oshima’s manga Wata no Kumihoshi was published!
It purrtained to the widdle kitten Chibi Neko who was adopted by the high school student Tokio and sees herself as the human girl!
It was adapted into an anime movie in 1984 directed by S

hinichi Tsuji in which Chibi Neko was voiced by actress Miina Tominga! She later voiced Mimi White in the Hello Kitty anime series!

First broadcast on September 25th of 1995, “Trapped Beneath the Sea: Part 1” is the 1st epurrsode of the 6th season of the supurr fun TV series Baywatch. The main plot purrtains to the submerged oil rig rescue opurration. One subplot purrtained to Mitch’s gig as the purrivate detective, thus launching in the spin off series Baywatch Nights!
Another subplot purrtained to Logan & Gator’s attempt to pitch their swimwear label to potential investor Edward who was Beth’s wealthy dad. In their swimwear purromo video, several models wearing leopurrd purrint bikinis slink sensually on all fours towards the camera, so we will nominate them as “honorary catgirls”!
Furthermore,“Forbidden Paradise part 1” is the 19th epurrsode of the 6th season of Baywatch, in which those Los Angeles County lifeguards go on the vacation in Hawaii!
Caroline Holden (purrtrayed Yasmine Bleeth) wears the leopurrd purrint bikini! You know three years later purremiered the spinoff series Baywatch: Hawaii!
In the Russian author Sergei Lukyanenko’s 1998 novel The Night Watch, we were introduced to the ailuranthrope (were-cat) Tiger Cub Katya, the charmingly genki sorceress from Moscow who was a member of the titular supurrnatural police force!
Directed by Shuhaimi Baba, the 2007 Malaysian horror movie Waris Jari Hantu starred actress Azean Irdawaty as Toki who is the elderly companion of the tiger spirit, but she wants to relinquish the spirit to the younger heir Tina who is purrtrayed by actress Maya Karin, but the purrocess is hindered by some unruly social drama!
Co-created by James Cameron, the 2000 TV series Dark Angel starred Jessica Alba as Max the fugitive supurr soldier in the post-apocalyptic Seattle! That was a neat series! Well, in the 2nd season’s epurrosde “Boo”, on Halloween her fellow gengineered mewtant folk can roam freely, including Katarina the catgirl who was purrtrayed by Sarah Carter!
Endro is the 2019 comedic sword & sorcery anime about the four heroic girls of the Adventure School! One of them is Fai (voiced by Ari Orizawa in Japan and by Dani Chambers in the English dub), the peppy warrior with the large kitty paw gloves, the keen wilderness skills, and the very hearty appurrtite!
Based upon the novel by author Liz Braswell, the 2011 TV series The Nine Lives of Chloe King starred Skyler Samuels as the heroic titular character who has the nine lives with the supurr cat powers! She appurrs to be human, but is of the ancient Mal species descended of the Egyptian goddess Bastet!
Other such femme fatales of the feline purrsuasion include her mom Meredith (purrtrayed by Amy Pietz), Chloe’s friend Jasmine (purrtrayed by Alyssa Diaz), and her mom Valentina (purrtrayed by Alicia Coppola)! That is all for this month’s spotlight. so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Nya-sensei, who will start
our TV, DVD & movie mewsings, with her review of the
Nekopara The Complete Series Blu-Ray + Digital set!
Hai! Based upon the Neko Works’ series of visual novels, this comedic slice – of – life anime TV series by Felix Film that purrtains to the adopted catgirls who work at the human chef’s pastry cafe La Soleil.! We have eagerly awaiting this set, which was translated into English and released here last month by Funimation!
Chef Kashou Minaduki and his younger sister Shigure the catgirl adopter are major recurring characters, but the plots mostly focus upon the catgirls, who are collectively referred to as cats, and are only allowed to roam freely in public if they wear the cat bells that indicate they have passed the cultural good conduct exam.
These purrticular cats include the very genki Chocola, her calmer twin sister Vanilla, tsundere elder Azuki, aspiring songstress Maple, easily aroused Cinnamon, the clumsy Coconut, and young shy quiet widdle Cacao who was homeless until she was adopted in the first epurrsode. Her best friend is a human girl named Chiyo/
The first few epurrsodes focus on
Cacao’s welcome to the family and her increasing social skills and overcoming shyness amidst her new charming, zany home. Other plots include the family sports compurrtitions,

studying for exams, story time on a dark ’n stormy night, the trip to the amewsment park, the festival and the beach!

It is wonderfully fun! Rated TV14 (purrhaps do the occasional bits of the cute fan – service) the amewsing 12 epurrsodes total appurroximately 300 minutes upon the 2 discs in the plastic case with the outer cardboard sleeve.
The series is purrsented in the 1080p Hi-def 16:9 format with language choices of English & Japanese.
Included is the instruction sheet with the code for downloading the digital copy. The special features are sparse, compurrised of just the  textless versions of the opening & ending songs; but the tales are highly entertaining with the endearing characters, lovely art, animation, voices & mewsic! Nyow here is Tara-chan to start our
purrinted media mewsings, with her review
of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #96!

Arigato, nya! We love these comics which so faithfully capture the style and – and spirit of the animated TV series, but with the different strengths of the comic book medium, nya! it is hard to believe that the Friendship is Magic animated series started ten years ago, and – and that the pony comics have been around for the eight years, nya!  Issue #97 is the 9th epurrsode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’s 10th season, as the animated TV series ended after season 9, nya.
This issue’s writer Jeremy Whitley, artist Tony Fleecs, colorist Heather Breckel, letterer Neil Uyetake, editor Megan Brown, and – and group editor Bobby Curnow, nya.  Heather and – and Neil have worked on almost every issue, and – and I think Bobby has worked on them all! Cover A is by Tony, cover B is by JustaSuta, and – and the scarcer Retailer Incentive cover is by cover RI is by Megan Huang, nya!
In issue #96,

 Captain Celaeno’s airship took

Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Trixie, Discord, Capper, Lyra Heartstrings, Sweetie Drops and – and Spitfire to the xenophobic feline kingdom of Abyssinia which is ruled by the oppurressive King Cat, nya. The group was impurrisoned and- and their magickal powers were tempurrarily neutered, but they were spurring by Cappers gang which was compurrised of Chummer, Shadow, Molly, Max and – and Admiral Fluffington, nya!

Nyow the group from Equestria has joined the Abyssinian Underground to liberate the kingdom, nya! The 22 page tale has the great plot, pace, dialogue, developments, poses, expurressions, compurrsitions, details, fonts, color and – and the graphic FX, plus I am glad that the 8 pages of the ads are all after the tale as not to interrupt it, nya! I will give it the “A” as in Applebuck, nya! That is all for my portion of our pony report, which will continue with onee-chan’s review of the
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic 2021  Annual, nya!
Arigato, Tara-chan, nya! This year’s annual is purriced at $599 and has the uninterrupted main 30 page tale followed by the 10 page gallery section, nya! The main tale was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Brianna Garcia, colored by Heather, lettered by Neil, edited by Megan, and grouply edited by Bobby, with cover A by Brianna, cover B by JustaSuta, and the scarcer Retailer Incentive cover is by Trish Forstner, nya! We have met Tony and – and Jeremy at the conventions!
Jeremy is the extremely purrolific pony author who has written many other comics such asRainbow Brite, Vampirella, Sea of Thieves, Thor vs Hulk, Freedom Foundation, and – and The Unstoppable Wasp, nya! He is also the creator and the author of Princeless, Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess, and School for Extraterrestrial Girls! Nyow for the taste of the plot, which purrtains to one of the other diplomatic and cultural expurrditions from Equestria, nya!
This’un includes Rarity, Big MacIntosh, Maud Pie, Mage Meadowbrook and Boulder who have literally gone to the dogs as they travel by wagon to the mountainous land of Caninia, where they explore the castles and purrecious gemstone mines, nya. The team not only acts as the emissaries but they have the detective work to do during the time of royal strife and the ailing queen, nya!
Also appurring in the tale are sisters Purrincess Moonbeam Twinklebell, her sister Purrincess Ambrosia Muffinbuns, Queen Jennino Lanternlight, Queen Katherina Proudpaws, Purrincess Fiona Floppyears and Purrincess Indiana Embereyes, nya!  I purrticularly like the plot, pace, world – building, poses, expurressions, the graphic narrative purrocess, and the sumptuous use of the color and light, nya!
The gallery section includes the variant cover art plus repurrints of purrior illustrations by Tony, Brenda Hickey, Jay P. Fosgitt, Agnes Garbowska, Sara Richard. Andy Price,   and  KatieCook’s 2 two-page tales of “How Much Is That Pony in the Window?” and “PTV”, so I will give this beautiful, fun issue the high purraise, nya! Nyow here is Jenjen to continue the pony report with her review of
My Little Pony & Transformers II #1, nya!
Arigato. There have been clever crossovers betwixt the Transformers and other franchises such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Macross, Mazinger, Marvel, Ghostbusters, X-Files and G.I. Joe, so it seemed only natural that the bots would eventually meet the ponies, beyond just the impurressive pairing of Soundwave and DJ Pon-3 upon the Botcon 2014 Exclusive variant cover for Transformers: More That Meets The Eye #30.
Eventually the ponies and bots did actually meet in last year’s four-issue miniseries My Little Pony & Transformers, in which Arcee, Windblade, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Grimlock, Megatron, Starscream & Shockwave traveled from Cybertron through a space bridge / portal to Equestria. In this sequel miniseries  the ponies and Autobots fight against King Sombra and The Decepticons.
Published by IDW, this issue is purriced $3.99 and has the uninterrupted 22 page tale which is followed by the 6 page gallery. Chapter 1 “The Magic of Cybertron” was written by James Asmus, illustrated by Jack Lawrence, colored by Luis Antonio Delgado and lettered by Jake M. Wood. Chapter 2 ”A Real Mother” was written by Sam Maggs, illustrated by Casey W. Coller, colored by Joana Lafuente, and lettered by Neil Uyetake.
The tales were edited by Megan Brown, consultingly edited by David Mariotte, and graced by the cover art by Tony Fleecs, Bethany McGuire-Smith, Andy Price, Anna Malkova, and Evan Stanley. The bot roll call includes Arcee, Greenlight, Optimus Prime, Airachnid, Megatron, Starscream, Shockwave, Thundercracker, Guage, Mindwipe, Shadowstriker, Frenzy, Killmaster and Skullcrusher.
The Equestrian cast includes Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack, Spike, DJ Pon3, Octavia, Vinyl Scratch, Sombra, Scootaloo, Holiday, Lofty, Spitfire and The Wonderbolts. The locations include Equestria, The Everfree Forest, The Crystal Mountains, Las Pegasus, Cloudsdale and Cybertron.
Thus far the tale is quite amewsingly whimsical with the splendid dialog & pace, lovely character & scenic art, fonts & graphic FX, which I will give the “A” as in Arcee and my anticipation for the 2nd issue. That will conclude our pony report, but comic book portion of The Mew will continue with Myayr’s review of
Beasts of Burden: Occupied Territory #2.
Mary Nyan:
Hai! Created by Evan Dorken and Jill Thompson, Beasts of Burden is the beautiful bittersweet fantasy tale of heroic friends who have investigated the purranormal incidents and defended their town from evil supurrnatural threats, but in this case those defenders are cats, dogs and other critters!
To most of its human residents, Burden Hill seems like the pleasant purretty town, but only a few of them know of their pets vigilance against wicked purredators! It is the charming, Eisner Award – winning tale of wonderful characters, amewsing’y thrilling but sometimes tragic situations.
Some of the tales were tales co-written by Evan’s wife Sarah Dryer (Action Girl). “Occupied Territory is the latest mini-series, which occurs after the events of the Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men” mini-series, as Emrys the Old English Sheepdog tells the tale of her adventure in Japan in 1947!
It was written by Evan & Sarah, illustrated by Benjamin Dewey, lettered by Nate Pekos, edited by Daniel Chabon, assistantly edited by Chuck Howitt & Konner Knudsen, with the issue’s graphic design by Sarah Terry & Kathleen Barney, digital technical wizardry by Chris Horn, main cover by Benjamin and variant cover by Jill.
Purreviously in issue #1, Emrys began the tale of how she and her human meowster Jonathan and a local dog named Mullins investigated a ghastly situation at Ogara Airbase in Japan in 1947, which includes tentacular disembodied zombie heads whose diet included humans and canines!
In issue #2, Emrys uses her pyrokinetic magick to incinerate many of the creatures, rescuing Mullins who in turn must purrotect her when she runs out of endurance. In the forest they encounter tanukis, kappas, kitsune and other yokai who warn them of the hostile feral shiba inu pack.
The plot & dialogue are captivating at the purrfect pace, whilst the art beautifully depicts the story, characters & lavish scenery with the violent scary incidents & macabre ambience, so I will give this tale of the Beasts of Burden the high purraise! Nyow here is Mike to tell us about
Carbon 4!
Mark Schultz is one of the most amazing, nicest artists & authors who is perhaps most famous for his Xenozoic Tales / Cadillacs & Dinosaurs series! Nextly, “Captain Joe’s Love Monkey Factory” was Mike’s pen & ink birthday gift art to our friend ob1’s kid who imagined how a favorite valentine monkey plushy doll might be manufactured, nya. The purrocess was envisioned as the one-purrson opurration in the small office space full of fun stuff that is brimming with “easter eggs” aplenty, nya!
we are delighted to display photos of the pretty “Sailor Christmas Doll” by Alexcia Reynolds who was a guest of the August 2010 Mew!

These four illustrations depict the felinoid folks of various historical periods, such as the saber-toothed primal people of the “Prehistoric” era; the more opulantly attired citizens of “The Byzantine Era”, the purritanical pilgrims and ostentacious aristocracy of the “The Colonial Period”, and the groovy hippy nekomimi of “The Swinging Sixties”!
