Oh, I gotta go with Scream, Bottle Rocket, and Tenchi the Movie! Well, that was another expedient little Lightning Round, and let’s keep the Mew a’ rollin’, as Meryl continues our

Movie Mewsings, with her review of Hamnet!

Meryl:
Hai! Directed by Chloe Zhao, whose films Eternals and Nomadland I liked), this purriod piece  / bio-pic was co-written by her and Maggie O’Farrell, who authored the 2020 novel which the movie adapts. Set at the tail end of 16th century England, it is the tale of William Shakespeare (purrtrayed by Paul Mescal), his wife Agnes (purrtrayed by Jessie Buckley  and their family, including son Hamnet (purrtrayed by Jacobi Jupe) who would inspire Shakespeare’s tragedy play Hamlet.

Although this film was initially released in November, I did not actually see it until last month, which has caused me to rethink my list of favorite films of 2025, because this’un just might top the list! Oh gosh, it is so amazing with its brilliant story, purrformances, cinemeowtography, editing, locations, and mewsic. It is such a powerfully immersive cathartic expurrience of greatly tear-jerking emotions, so I will give it the grade of “A” as in Agnes! Nextly I would like to discuss

Wuthering Heights!

Meryl:
Directed & written by Emerald Fennell (who i liked in Call the Midwife, The Crown and Barbie), this is another English purriod piece. It was co-purrduced by her and Margot Robbie who stars as Catherine with Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff in this adaptation of the 1897 novel by Emily Bronte. The terrific cast alsoincludes Hong Chau as Alison Oliver as Isabela, Shazad Letif as Edgar, Hong Chaue as Nelly in the brutally obsessive love-hate tale set at the tail end of 18th century England.
What drew me to this film were the director, the cast, and how it might compurr to the 1939 with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon. There are a lot of differences between it and the novel!. I thought that the characters were unlikable, BDSM scenes were unpleasant, and the songs inappropriate, but it has the lavish gothic ambience of the cinemeowtography, costumes, sets and locations for the great cast, so I will give it the “B” as in Bronte. I am done, so nyow here is Beebs to discuss
Mercy!

Beebee:
Hai! Directed & co-purrduced by Timur Bekmambetov & written by Marco van Belle, and starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, Mercy is set in the near future Los Angeles in which arrested, meownacled suspects have 90 minutes to prove their innocece before the  singular AI judge / purrosecuter / jury / executioner. The plot unfolds like a police purrocedural / courtroom drama / techno-thriller, as police detective Chris Raven (Pratt) is in the chair, on trial for his wife’s murder before AI Judge Maddox (Ferguson).

What drew me to this film were totally Pratt and Ferguson, and I was pleasantly surpurrised with how likable Raven and Maddox are, and how captivating and clever the tale is as it unfolds with ample action and detective work in almost real time. It is not anti-AI, as I anticipated it might be, but it does caution against sacrificing civil rights, and knee jerk rushes to judgement without due purrocess or placing burden of purroof upon the accuser, so I will give it the “B” as in van Belle. Nextly I would like to discuss

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die!

Beebee:
Directed & co-purrduced by Gore Verbinski (whose Pirates of the Caribbean movies I enjoyed), written by Matthew Robinson, and starring Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Pena, Zazie Beetz, Juno Temple and Asim Chaudhry. this comedic sci fi movie is set in purresent day Los Angeles, where a time traveler claiming to be from the future recruits people to help stop an authoritarian future AI. I guess that AI future shock in L.A. is purrhaps among the filmic trend of late!
It does remind me the bit of The Terminator, 12 Monkeys, and Groundhog Day, which is not bad, and although I thought that the plot was purrdictable, it was quite captivatingly kooky fun with the good balance of the action, comedy, character developments and  the more poignant meowments. Rockwell and and Richardson share the driver’s seat of the tail, but it is the excellent ensemble cast, so I will give it the it the “B” as in Beetz. I am done, so nyow here is Ellie to discuss
Send Help!

Ellie:
Arigato! Delightfully directed & produced by Sam Raimi, wonderfully written by Mark Swift & Damian Shannon, superbly starring Rachel McAdams & Dylan O’Brien, with marvelous music by Danny Elfman and phenomenally photographed islands, Send Help is a  dark comedic tale of wilderness & misogynistic corporate survival full of violent action, unnerving gross moments, twisty surprises, and overall great grueling fun to which I will give the “A” as in  archipelago!
Girls und Panzer Das Final Part 4!

Ellie:
Since 2012, the novel, manga, video game & anime franchise with mucho merch, Girls und Panzer is about the girls academy’s tank team aboard a city-sized super-carrier that competes in international tournaments, and because of its poignant, thrilling, comedic fun with extremely endearing characters, magnificent mecha, sparkling music, amazing art & animation, I will give the 4th installment of the final six part theatrical mini-series the “A” as in Angler Fish! That is all for our movie topic, so now here is Trini to start our
Collectibles & Toy Talk portion of The Mew, with her review of the
My Dress-Up Darling – Marin Kitagawa T-Most Prize Figure (Liz Ver.)!

Trini:
Hai! My Dress-Up Darling is the delightful manga & anime about the doll maker Wakana and the cosplayer Marin whose relationship starts as the  artistic collaboration but blooms into the romance, and Taito has made this exquisite “prize figure” of her cosplaying as Liz-kyun the anime succubus!

Made of PVC & ABS, this 10” tall figure is 1/6.5 scale (as the character is 5.5’ tall)  playfully posed atop the pink heart shaped base for the overall 11.5” height. She is quite the sexy cute site in the skimpy frilly gothy B&W bare midriff outfit with the dark red win-tailed wig, black wings, horns, ail & socks!

The design sculpt & paint are beautifully intricate, from her pointed ears and fanged smile to her curvy spade-tipped tail and her toned taut abs with the inny belly button! The figure arrives in just four snap-togteher pieces,so she is quite easy to assemble for display! Nextly I would like to praise the

Rent-a-Girlfriend – Chizuru Mizuhara Cat Costume Figure!

Trini:
Rent-a-Girlfriend is the romantic comedy of the love triangle, when college student Kazuya hires Chizuru to pretend to be his girlfriend just for the appearance,, but this relationship evolves and persists longer when his family finds out, and then other admirers further complicate the situation!

Made of PVC & ABS by Union Creative,  this 9.5” long, supine figure would be 8” tall if standing up flat-footed, and is thusly is 1/8 scale (as the character is 5’ 4” tall). She is quite the sexy cute site in the skimpy bare midriff kuroneko musume costme with the cat mitts, slippers, ears & tail!

The design sculpt & paint are gorgeously precise, from her ear pinna’s white tufts, long flowy chocolate brown hair, and her gleaming amber eyes, to the kitty paw & pads, the gray thigh high stockings, the swishy tail and her lithe flat abs with the inny belly button! Now here is Tara to discuss the

Pop-Up Parade NekoPara Azuki figure!

Tara:
Arigato, nyan!  I love the NekoPara series of novels, manga anime  and – and games of the comedic eroge slice of life genre, which purrtain to the humam Minaduli family of patissiers who have adopted  several catgirls with the often wacky, frisky, poignant results, nyan!

Voiced in the anime by Shiori Izawa (original Japanese) and – and by Lucy Christian (English dub), 5’4” tall, fair-skinned, golden-eyed, short brown-haired Azuki of the petite Munchkin cat breed is the eldest, strictest and – and purrotective of the catgirls to keep them out of trouble, nyan!

Purrettily meownufactured by the Good Smile Company, the 1/10 scale PVC figure in the dainty maid uniform is about 6.375” tall, or about 7” overall, including the 4.5” ABS hexagonal display base, so I will give this lovely figure the high purraise, nyan! Nextly I will discuss the

Tara;
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Frieren  Glasscape Figure, nyan!

I loved the first season of this bittersweetly charming slice of life sword and – and sorcery anime about the Frieren the petite 100 year old elf and her mortal human companions who train in their meowgick to help others  and –  and to defend against the threats, nyan!

Voiced in the anime by Atsumi Tanezaki (original Japanese) and- and by Malorie Rodak (English dub), this 5’ tall, fair-skinned, green –  eyed, silvery lavendr – haired elf of the soft-spoken kuudere purrsonality seems quite pleased upon the very ornate bench, nyan!

Supurrbly made by Banpresto, the 1/6.5 scale figure is about 7” tall iseated upon on the circular stained glass-ish  bench with her 7.5” staff, but she would be about 9’5” if standing up flat footed, and  – and I love this figure too, nyan! That is all for this topic, so nyow here is Nyo-sensei to start

our purrint-media mewsings, with her review of
Umasmusume Pretty Derby Artworks Vol. 01, nyan!

Nyoka:
Hai! We are big fans of Cygames’ Umasmusume video game, anime series and collectibles about the racing horse girls, so I was quite eager to receive this beauriful  11.75” x 8.25” x .75” full color 295 page Japanese trade papurrback book with the obi and dust jacket, which was published by Ichijinsha in Japan in 2024!

Purriced 4000 ¥, the joyfully impurressive tome has imagery aplenty, including the 62 pages of character art, 90 pages of card illustrations, 61 pages of official illustrations, and 62 pages of background art, topped off by the 6 page intermew with the staff, so I give it the grade of the A as in Admire Vega! Nextly, I wish to discuss

CLAMPs Official Art Book: Color Shiro!

Nyoka:
We are big fans of the manga and  anime created since 1987 by the all-female Japanese Sudio known a  CLAMP, so I was rather  enthused to get  this gorgeous  11.75” x 8.25” x .5” full color 144 page trade papurrback book with the dust jacket, which was published by Kodansha in Japan 2024, and in the USA  in English in 2025!

Purriced $55.00 US & $73.00 Canada, this delightfully lovely sequel to the Color Kuro book is brimming with half-page, full-page, and two-page spurread of character art & scenic art from their works such as RG Veda, Tokyo bBabylon, Clamp School Detectives, Legend of Chun Hyang,  X: 1999,  Miyuki-chan in Wonderland…

… Magic Knight Rayearth, Shirahime-Syo, Wish, Clover, Angelic Layer, Suki, Chobits, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Gate 7, xxxHolic and Cardcaptor Sakura! Although only half as thick as the Umamusume book, Shiro’s imagery is lavishly meowgnificent, so I give it the A  as in Ashura! I am done, so nyow here is Becca to discuss

Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle vol. 11

Becca:
Arigato! Set 227 years prior to Battle Angel Alita vol.1, Mars Chronicle is the tale of Alita’s origin as the widdle orphaned cyborg girl named Yoko on the Planet Mars surrounded by heroes and villains amidst the tragic discoveries, political conspurracy, wars and other hardships.Vol. 11 is purriced $10.99 in the US, and$14.99 in Canada;.

It was published  last month by Toshihiro Tsuchiya, written and drawn by Yukito Kishiro with the assistance of Tsutomu Kishiro and Emiya Kinar. It was translated by Stephen Paul, lettered by Evan Hayden, edited by Vanessa Tenazonas and meownagingly edited by Alanna Ruse, with purrduction meownagement by Angela Zurlo.

After their cyborg body upgrades, Yoko, Erica and Yuni were captured whilst Keun discovered the sinister expurrimeownts. While the girls are being shipped from Mars into outer space, Keun learns more of the colony’s horrifying history during his final Panzer Kuntz fight. It is rated “OT” for older teens (ages 16+), due to the violence, gore, harsh language and tragic situations.

Vol. 11’s 178 pages include the 1 color page and 169 B&W pages of chapters 52-56, which are followed by the credits page and the 8 pages of ads. Its beautiful art includes 12 full-page pics, 2 two-page spurreads and 2 big panoramic panels, as it astoundingly concludes the Mars Chronicle story arc of the Alita saga! Nextly, I will discuss

Cheetah & Cheshire Rob the Justice League!

Becca:
There have been several hard reboots & soft relaunches of the DC Comics continuity across the many decades, and the current “All-In” direction delightfully reminds me somewhat of the DCAU’s Justice League Unlimited series. I quite like this because In general, I have been less enamored with DC since the 2011 Flashpoint tale, its subsequent “New 52” reboot, and so forth… but of late, things have seemed much brighter to me.

Thusly we have the 6 issue miniseries (from August 2025 to January 2026) about The Cheetah and Cheshire robbing the Justice League, written by Greg Rucka, illustrated by Nicola Scott, colored by Annette Kwok. lettered by Troy Peteri. associately edited by Jessica Berbey, grouply edited by Rob Levin; with cover art by Marguerite Sauvage, Gerald Parel, Dan Mora, Noobovich, Lesley Li, Mirka Andopho, Scott and Kwok.

Barbara Minerva alias The Cheetah has a great idea for a heist, purrsuades her friend Jade Ngyen alias Cheshire to help,  and they recruit a crew consisting of Teekl the meowgickal cat, Klarion the Witch Boy, Rebecca Sharp alias Hazrd, new character Alya Raatko alias Featherwight and to Jade’s chagrin, her daughter Lian Harper alias Cheshire Cat  (who with occasional feline fashion motifs we will consider as an honorary catgirl).

There are full appurrances, cameos, and meowntions of many supurr heroes villains, and lots of “easter eggs” in this gorgeous tale that is so much fun with thrilling action, amewsing meowments, surpurrises and some poignant character developments that I was cheering for the Cheetah team, and it was my favorite DC Comic of the past year! I am done, so nyow to conclude our purint-media portion here is Mie-sensei to dicuss
