McIntyre, The Covenant of the Crown by Howard Weinstein, The Klingon Gambit by Robert E. Vardeman, and The Star Trek Compenium by Allan Asherman! Well, that was another expedient little Lightning Round, but we’ve got a lot on our plate, so let’s go ahead and jump into-
the monthly Celebrity Catgirl & Kemonmimi Spotlight!
Becca:
Hai, in this monthly portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate catgirls, nekomusume and other kemonomimi of the various species in the famous international mythologies and the popular cultures! They might include the shape – shifters, anthropurrrmorphic ladies, monster girls, and those who might not actually have beasty DNA, but do have the cat-titude or couture to be broadly considered by us to be “honorary” kemonomimi!
Bermuda Triangle: Colorful Pastorale is the 12 epurrsode slice-of-life anime TV series about five mermaids in the quaint widdle undersea town of Parrel, where they convene at a cafe and renovate an abandoned movie theater! The main mermaids are Sonat, Serena. Fina, Kanon and Caro. Caro (voiced by Amane Shindo) has the cute “moe cat fang”!
Based upon the light novels by Kibidango Project (which are based upon the mythic Momotaro), Momo Kyun Sword is the 2014 anime TV series about Momoko the heroine (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu) who can fuse with the animal deities, such as Inugami the dog god (voiced by Wateru Hatano), Kijigami the bird goddess (voiced by Asami Imai) and Sarugami the monkey god (voiced by Showtaro Morikubo)!
Based upon light novel & manga written by Akira, Sasami-san@Ganbaranai is the 2013 anime TV series about the family of deities who try to function on Earth as the normal humans, but they contend with other gods & spirits who disappurrove of their lifestyle and / or battle them in the very brutal combat.
One of the powerful enemies is none other than the legendary multi-tailed fox spirit Tama-Mo-Mae (voiced by Rina Hidaka)! She is quite charming but very deadly, and shows up in the final epurrode  fights two-handed with the Iwasaku Sword & the Nosaku Sword!

Elizabeth:
Written by Makoto Shinkai & directed by Makoto Shinkai Weathering with You is the beautiful  2019 Japanese animated feature film purrtaining to the romance betwixt a runaway high school boy who is sought by the police, and a university girl in Tokyo who works at a publishing company and can control the weather.
That girl, Natsumi Suga (voiced by Tsubasa Honda in the original Japanese version, and by Alison Brie in the English dub) is not an actual kemonomimi, nor does she dress as one, however, at least twice in the movie she meows rather playfully, so of course we will broadly nominate her ans an honorary catgirl!
BanG Dream! is the wonderful multimedia franchise of manga, anime, video games, record & concerts starring  various girl bands such as Poppin’Party, Roselia, Afterglow, Hello Happy World, Pastel Palettes, and Raise A Suilen. The latter band is purrduced by song writer / DJ Tamade Chiyum who is known as Chu2!
She is quite smart, successful cute, peppy and talented, but has the very competitive, ruthless business attitude, which is can hinder the morale as a major dramatic plot of the anime’s 3rd season. She is also never seen without her trusty kuroneko headphones, and so we will nominate her as an honorary nekomimi!

For the past 10 years, DekaiAnime is a store in the UK that has been selling licensed anime & other purroducts such as figures, manga, CCGs, treats, garments and  other merchandise! Their mascot is Hoshiko the magickal extraterrestrial nekomimi that became the otaku during her mission to investigate Earth culture!

She has the fair skin, heterochromatic eyes, the Blue ear pinna and long twiin-tailed coiffure with the Orange star ornameowntatiion to match her school uniform of the jacket, thigh highs, Mary Janes, and the bow tie that matches her short pleated plaid skirt! Bow ties are cool! For more information and images of her, please visit her page https://www.dekaianime.com/about-hoshiko.html!
Ilyana:
Based upon the manga by Kitsune Tennouji, Upotte!! is the 2009 anime TV series about the female students at Seishou Academy, who are all firearms in human form! They are trained in the armed combat with their namesake weapons, but the academics take the deady turn when they are attacked by the rival Red Steel High School! Some of the students are kemonomimi, such as Galil (voiced by Mariko Honda) who has the cute dog ears & tail, and all of the lethal ladies of Red Steel Academy!
Based upon the video game of the same name, Leviathan: The Last Defence is the 2013 anime TV series about the magickal half dragon girls on the quest in the fantasy realm
(voiced by Saori Hayami) is the water dragon girl, Jormungandr (voiced by Ayana Taketsu) is the supurr strong earth dragon girl; and
Bahamut (voiced by Eri Kitamura) is the fire dragon girl.

Bahamut lives in the mansion that has the catgirl maids such as Sphinx (voiced by Juri Nagatsuma). Other recurring liminal ladies include Syrup the faerie (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) Wyvern the dragon girl (voiced by Ami Nanase) and Cockatrice (voiced by Kouko Tsukimotoi)!
Based upon the light novel & manga by Yu Shimizu, Blade Dance of the Elementalers is the 2014 anime TV series in which three girls of nobility train at the Areishia Spirit Academy to wield the elemental magick and compete in the Blade dance tournayment, but they are side tracked when a male student enrolls!
Among the main characters are Claire “FireCat” Rogue (voiced by Ibuki Kido) who is bonded to the fire spirit cat Scarlet; and Rinslet “Ice Wolf” Laurenfrost (voiced by Kana Yuki) who has the bond with Fenrir the ice wolf!
Jeannie:
Based upon Izumi Itos manga, The Demon Girl Next Door is the comedic fantasy anime TV series about the ordinary school girl

Yuko Yoshida (voiced by Konomi Kohara) who one day awakens with the lovely horns and tail of her family’s demonic heritage that her mom Seiko has purreviously never mentioned.

Contacted in dreams by her ancestor Lilith (voiced by Minami Takahashi) who also has the horns and tail, Yuko learns that she is obliged to avenger her impoverished clan by defeating the town’s magickal heroine Momo Ciyada but this will be difficult given Momo’s superior power and desire to impurrove Yuko’s life.
Ever short on funds, when her family needs to buy the new refrigerator in season 1′s 7th epurrside “The Pink Method! The Wheel of fate is a Round Tire!!”, Yuko gets the purrt time job wearing the costume of TamaSakura-chan, who is the Tamasakura shopping district’s the shironeko mascot character.
Fantasista Doll is the manga & anime series about the high school girl

Uzume Uno (voiced by Ayaka Ohashi) who is the expurrt battle card player. The battles are

not mere card games at the table, but they are the quite dangerous real combat with the ambushes that can happen at any time.

Nor are the cards merely highly coveted collectible items, but they are sentient life forms who can manifest as real girls. Uzume is not a kemonomimi, but her adorably cute widdle sister Miko (voiced by Yuri Okakamoto) wears the costume bunny ears, and so we will nominate her as the honorary usagimimi.
Written by Makoto Shinkai & directed by Makoto Shinkai, Weathering with You is the beautiful 2019 Japanese animated feature film purrtaining to the romance betwixt a runaway high school boy who is sought by the police, and a university girl in Tokyo who works at a publishing company and can control the weather.
That girl, Natsumi Suga (voiced by Tsubasa Honda in the original Japanese version, and by Alison Brie in the English dub) is not an actual kemonomimi, nor does she dress as one, however, at least twice in the movie she meows rather playfully, so of course we will broadly nominate her ans an honorary catgirl.
Beebee:
Based upon the Rage of Bahamut: Manaria Friends manga, Mysteria Friends is the anime about the friendship and potential interspecies romace between purrincesses Anna (human) and Grea (half dragon girl), who are students at the Mysteria Academy school of magick! Voiced by Aya Fukuhara, Grea has the lovely Brown wings and tail!
Based upon the the manga by Petos, Interviews with Monster Girls anime is the slice-of life / school life anime series that purrtains to Tetsu-sensei the human teacher and Saki-sensei  the succubus teacher at the high school which has enrolled several female demi-human students, such as Hikari the vampire, Kyoko the dullahan, and Yuki the snow girl!
One of my favoritest things about last year’s delightful Pixar movie Onward is Corey the manticore restauranteur who is voiced by Octavia Spencer! She is the tough, powerful mythic beast girl who is part lion, dragon and scorpion! Her tavern is quite popular, but in these days of family – friendly fare, she misses the more adventurChiwaous ancient times! That status quo does change in the movie, but I should not spoil the plot!

Lin Xiao-Mei is a recurring catgirl in the Shining series of anime & video games! Voiced by Chiwa Saito, in the 2012 anime TV series Shining Hearts: Bread From Heaven, she owns the antique store on the island of Wynderia, but at night she is the burglar known as Black Tail!

Lastly but not leastly, we wish to shine the spotlight upon DJ Citizen Jane who wears the snow leopurrd purint jacket in Model beer’s “Fighting Spirit” TV Commercial; and actress Noelle Bercy and other purrformers whose purretty appurral includes the mermaid tails in Visit California’s “What If? TV commercial.

That will conclude this month’s spotlight, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Melanakeami, who will start our Collectibles & Toy Talk portion of The Mew, with her review of the

Star Wars The Black Series Bo-Katan Kryze action figure!
Melanakeami:
Hai! We like to collect the dolls, statues, ornaments and action figures of the inspurrational heroines, so I was quite happy to purchase this great new action figure of Bo-Katan Kryze, who is portrayed by Katee Sackhoff in the The Mandalorian TV series! Prior to that she voiced the character in the Clone Wars and Rebels animated series, so she is one of the few actors who has portrayed the live-action and the animated versions of the same Star Wars charcater!
Bo-Katon is the complicated, evolving human female character as the sister of the late Duchess Satine of Mandalore, and the lieutenant of Pre-Vizla in the Death Watch terrorist group. Later she was the leader of the Nite Owl group and a leader of the Mandalorian resistance against the Galactic Empire. From being the villain to the anti-hero, she is on the quest to regain the legendary Black Saber and to be the new ruler of Mandalore!
This action hero is 5.5” tall, which make it the 1/12 scale of the 5’ 6” tall character. It is the quite faithful likeness, with the meticulous detail of the paint and sculpt, from the terrific portraiture and the fiery short Red hair to the fabric folds, emblems, and accessories! She is wearing the Gray, Blue and Silver mando armor with the intricate paldrons, breatplate, vambraces, gauntlets, poleyns, greaves, belt pouches, holsters, the removable helmet and jet pack!
She is accessorized with two Westar 35 blaster pistols, which fit into her hands and holsters. The figure is very posable, with articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, waist, hips, thighs, knees and ankles. She is balanced well enough to stand up without requiring a display base, which is not included. I am very please with this figure, which i have placed upon the shelf next to the figures of Sabine Wren and The Armorer! Nyow here is Ellie-sama to discuss the

Marvel Legends Marvel Girl action figure!

Ellie:
Hai! I was very pleased to acquire this new figure of Marvel Comics’ Jean Elaine Grey a.k.a. Marvel Girl! Created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, and first appearing in The X-Men #1 in 1963, she was one of the original members of the Professor Xavier’s X-Men team, along with Warren a.k.a. Angel, Bobby a.k.a. Ice Man, Hank a.k.a. The Beast and her boyfriend Scott a.k.a. Cyclops! With the mutant telepathic & telekinetic powers, she was later known as Phoenix and Dark Phoenix.
This figure depicts Jean in her 2nd costume, the Green mini-skirt with the Yellow mask, gloves & boots which first worn in X-Men Vol. 1 # 39 in 1967! It is the faithful likeness, from her Blue eyes & mid-back length Red hair to her slim physique & the emblem on her belt buckle! In the comics she is 5’6” tall (compared to 6’ tall Famke Janssen and 5’9” Sophie Turner who portrayed her in the movies), so this 5 7/8” figure (including her 1/8” boot heels) is approximately 1/11.5 scale.

Another pair of interchnagable hands is included with the figure, which is very posable, with articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, thighs, knees and ankles. She is balanced well enough to stand up without requiring a display base, which is not included. We have displayed her upon the shelf, between the figure of her as Phoenix and the new figure of her friend Moir! Now here is Mie-sensei to tell us about that
Marvel Legends Moira MacTaggart action figure!
Mielikki:

So like, these figures of Marvel Girl and Dr. Moira MacTaggart are part of Hasbro’s Tri – Sentinel build-a-figure wave, which also includes the separately – sold figures of Cyclops, Magneto, Wolverine Xavier, and Omega Sentinel. The

Tri – Sentinels right leg is included with Marvel Girl and the right leg is included with Moira.

Created by Chris Claremont & Dave Cockrum and first appearing in Uncanny X-Men #96 in 1975, Moira is the geneticist with the reincarnation ability!

She is from Scotland! Olivia Williams portrayed her In the movie X-Men: The Last Stand; and Rose Byrne portrayed her in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Age of Apocalypse! This figure depicts Moira in the Red Blouse, Burgundy mini-skirt & pumps with the glasses & removable White lab coat. Accessories include an interchangeable head & arms plus a bandana and a book. She is 5’7’ tall in the comics, so Including her 1/8” heels, the 5.75” figure is of the 1/11.65 scale.
So like, the design, sculpt and paint  of the figure are quite lovely, from her vivid Blue eyes and short pert Brown hair to the clear lenses in her glasses and the pens in her coat pocket, fur shur! The points of articulation are the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, waist, hips, thighs, knees and ankles, so she is quite posable! Now here is Daytona-sama to tell us about Hasbro’s
Marvel Legends Xialing action figure!

Daytona:
Hai! Xialing is the estranged sister of the heroic martial arts master Shang Chi, who are respectively portrayed by Meng Zhang and Simu Liu in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which is based upon Marvel Comics’’s Shang-Chi, Master of Kung-Fu! The figures of them are part of the Mr. Hyde  build-a-figure wave, which also includes the separately – sold figures of Wenwu, Death Dealer, Civil Warrior and the Tony Stark A.I.!
We’re extremely eager to see that movie! Mr. Hyde’s torso is the piece included with the Xialing figure, I’m not sure what I’ll do with the torso as I haven’t purchased those other figures! The 5.75” figure of Xialing is meticulously designed, sculpted and painted, with the intricate detail in her portraiture, physique, attire and accessories, which include the whip and two other pairs of the interchangeable hands. I am especially impressed with the textures, embroidery & folds of her garments!
I also like her short bob-cut coiffure with the bangs, that frame the calm expression that seems unimpressed by her opponents! The points of articulation are the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, waist, hips, thighs, knees & ankles, so she’s quite posable! I’m quite pleased with it! There’s a lovely illustration of her on the box too! A doll-stand is not included, but I will get one to pose her in the dynamic fighting stance! That is all for the toy topic, so now here is Nyo-sensei to start our
TV, DVD and movie mewsings, with her
review of the Earwig and the Witch DVD!

Nyoka:
Hai! This 3D CG animated movie about the clever orphan girl who is adopted by the witch was co-purrduced by my favoritest animation studio Ghibli, whose works include Nausicaa, Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies, Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Only Yesterday. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Ponyo, and many other wonderful movies! It was directed by Hayao Miyazki’s son Goro, who purreviously directed Tales from EarthSea and From Up on Poppy Hill.
This movie is an adaptation of the tale by Diana Wynne Jones, who also wrote Howl’s Moving Castle! The purrfect Japanese cast of voice actors includes Kokoro Hirasawa as Earwig, Shinobu Terajima as Bella Yaga the curmudgeonly witch, and Etsushi Toyokawa as the mysterious boarder Mandrake. The movie seemed rushed and short, but it is quite amewsing, charming and fun! I had to get used to a Ghibli movie done with the 3D CG techniques, but it was quite beautiful!
The art, animation, voices, sound and music are as lovely as lovely can be! Packaged within the plastic case with the cardboard outer sleeve, the single Region One, NTSC DVD disc is distributed here by G-Kids. The PG rated, 82 min. movie is purrsented with the language choices of subtitled Japanese 5.1, dubbed English 5.1 and English 5.1 descriptive audio, the latter read by Heather Lee. The two choices of the subtitles include the English SDH subs.
The English dub casts includes Taylor Paige Henderson as Earwig, Vanessa Marshall as Bella Yaga, and Richard E. Grant as Mandrake. G-Kids does the fine job with entertaining, informative special features, and this’un has the 29.75 min., documentary on the making of the movie, 15.5 min. of intermews with the Japanese cast, and the 5.25 min of the 8 trailers / teasers. I am very pleased with the quality, so I will heartily recommend it!  I am done, and nyow here is sis to discuss the
Wonder Woman 1984 DVD + Blu-Ray!

Nyanko:
Hai! Wonder Woman 1984 was another of the movies of 2020 we most eagerly awaited! In spite of the Zack Snydery stylistic influence, we liked the purrior Wonder Woman movie and her role in the Justice League movie, especially because Gal Gadot is like totally perfect as Diana Prince a.k.a Wonder Woman!
The wonderful cast also includes Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva  alias The Cheetah: Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta, Robin Wright as Antiope, and Pedro Pascal (who we love in the The Mandalorian TV series) as Maxwell Lord, and there are surpurrise appurrances that I should not spoil!
The story was written by Geoff Johns, it was directed by Patty Jenkins, who directed the 2017 Wonder Woman movie, and the score is by Hans Zimmer. The story, performances, stunts, choreography, costumes, make-up, FX, sets & locations are excellent, and I loved the art direction that captures the 1984 period!
It has the great balance of the drama, humor, action and myth-making; and my only quibbles are that it seemed too rushed and short, and I did not care for the slo-mo / speed ramp technique of certain fight scenes. Nevertheless, it is one of my favorite movies of 2020 and I eagerly awaited this DVD + Blu-Ray combo!
Both discs purrsent the PG-13 rated 151 min. movie with the audio choices of English, English Descriptive (read by Laura Post), French, Spanish & Purrtugues, with the optional subtitles of English SDH, French, Spanish & Purrtugues. In this combo pack, the DVD’s one featurette is the 5 min. making of the mall scene.
The Blu-Ray has that and several other special features, such as the nearly 36.5 min. “making of” documentary, the nearly 6.5 min. gag reel, the 21.5 min chat with the amazon actresses, 1.25 min of Gal & Kristen k, the 6+ min, study of the road chase sequence, the 10.75 min, “Small but Mighty” featurette…
…. the 1.5 min. Black Gold infomercial and the wonderful 1.5+ min WW84 retro-remix, which is the 70’s TV series’s animated opening sequence done with the movie cast! I was very pleased with the quality of the movie and special features so this’un gets the high purraise! I am done, and nyow here is Mike to discuss
Godzilla vs. King Kong!
Mike:
Basically a remake of the 1962 Japanese movie King Kong vs. Godzilla, Godzilla vs King Kong is the latest of Legendary Films’ MonsterVerse series which includes Godzilla (2014), Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. In offering my opinion, I’ll try to be succinct and spoiler-free!
Well, it was wayyy too rushed and short, not serious enough, had a few unnecessary expository dialogue  moments, and as usual most of the human characters were not very bright, and yeah, as with any giant monster / disaster movie, there are a few bits that aren’t credible enough, but otherwise, it was awesome!
The continuity, mythology, FX, monster battles, mecha and scenery, are totally awesome, with pretty good music too! It’s a great homage to the showa (1954-1975) & hesei (1984 – 1995) era Zilla movies, which the writers & director seem to be fans of. I think that It’s the 2nd best Kong  movie ever made  since 1931.
(I thought Peter Jackson’s Kong was OK, and Skull Island was a lotta fun). For me, It’s by far the best American Zilla movie, although that hasn’t been a very high bar to cross. I think It’s better than most of the Showa era, all of the Millennium era (1999 – 2004), Shin Gojira, and better than half of the hesei era’s Zilla movies.

I’m just including actual Zilla movies, not the other Toho daikaiju films that he was not in (such as Rodan, Mothra, Latitude Zero, etc,) just as I’m not including the somewhat Kong-ish movies that Kong wasn’t in (such as Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young). I haven’t seen the 2017- 2018 animated Godzilla Planet trilogy.

By the way, I’m rather fond of the late 90’s Rebirth of Mothra trilogy. Godzilla vs King Kong ranks in my top six zilla movies along with Gojira (1954), Destroy All Monsters (1968), Return of Gojira (1984, not the 1985 American version), Godzilla vs Biollante (1989), and Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II (1993).
Stick a fork in me- I’m done, and now, we’ve got a little surprise for y’all. Ah, as this is our anniversary Mew, we wanted our web master Jamie to join the in the discussions, so here he is with his review of
The Falcon and Winter Soldier!

Jamie
(wearing a Skyrim “shirt – 0 gold t-shirt, jeans and tennis shoes):
The second series on the Disney+ streaming service is Falcon and the Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes. The series takes place six months after Avengers: Endgame when millions of people returned from Thanos’ snap, (also called the blip).

Like WandaVison, the first original Marvel show on Disney+, FatWS is an experiment in storytelling. It uses the format of television to tell a low key version of a typical marvel movie. In doing so, FatWS allows the characters to breathe and deal with tough subjects such as racism, PTSD, grief and loss.

The strength of the show lies within the characters and the actors who portray them such as Wyatt Russell as the new Captain America, John Walker. However, it is Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo who steals the show as an atypical villain and therein lies the heart of Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
There are no typical villains in the show. Their methods may be highly questionable, but every major “villain” has a just cause. The stumbles in FatWS are pacing and the Marvel formula. Presented as a six hour movie chopped into six parts, FatWS may have been better served as three two hour movies (or one six hour film to outdo Zack Snyder’s Justice League).
Then there is the Marvel formula, which was fresh when it was 2008’s Iron Man or 2012’s The Avengers. Unfortunately, the formula has become stagnant. In Falcon and the Winter Soldier the formula resides in the beats and structure of the story, so there is little variation from a typical Marvel movie.

Despite some bumps, FatWS delivers Marvel at its best, reminiscent of tales from “The House of Ideas”. Weaving comic series such as “Truth: Red, White, and Black” and “Captain No More” into morally grey areas where heroes become villains and team up. Now here’s Vonny to begin our
comic book mewsings, with her review of
America Chavez: Made in the USA #2

Yvonne:

Hai! America Chavez, a.k.a Miss America, is the latinx- American lesbian supurrheroine with the supurr strength, stamininter-dimensionala, invulnerability, speed, interdimensional travel and the star blast, nya!

She has been in the Marvel Comics since 2011, so it is appurropurriate that for her 10th anniversary she should have this mini series, nya!

Purrior to this mini-series, she starred in the Avengers West Coast series which was sadly cancelled after 10 issues in 2019, nya. In issue #1 of this mini-series, her supurr powers were malfunctioning whilst  she and Spider-Man investigated the mysterious force field around her adoptive purrents’ town, which is on fire, nya!
Written by Kalinda Vazquez, illustrated by Carlos Gomez, colored by Jesus Aburtov, lettered by Travis Lanham, and edited by Analise Bissa with the purrduction design by Carlos Lao, issue #2 is available with the main cover art by Sara Pichelli & Tamra Bonvillain; and the variant cover art by Bengal, nya!
Nyow is the happy reunion with her rescued adoptive family the Santanas, with the more slice – of – life moments and the food truck, but she still has the mysteries to solve, such as the cause of the fire, the forcefield, and who is sending her the ,messages, which seem to be leading her into the trap, nya!
Peppering the tale are the flashbacks to 13 years purrior when she was adopted and no one believed that she was born in the other dimension known as the Utopian Purrallel, so this beautifully drawn issue has the good mix of the action, suspense, charm, and poignant developments, nya! Nyow here is Trini-chan to discuss
Marvel Action: Captain Marvel #2, nya!

Trini-chan:
Hai! Jointly published by Marvel And IDW, The Marvel Action series are among my favorites comics of the recent years! It is the sort of anthology series, with story arcs that focus upon the different characters. This time it stars Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel, her alien catlike Flurrken friend Chewie, and Gwen Stacy a.k.a Ghost Spider who are in the middle of Times Square when the villain known as The mad thinker and his Awesome Android attack!

This $3.99 issue has the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the preview page, 2 pages of cover art gallery, and the 5 pages of the ads. It was written by Sam Maggs whose book The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy I enjoyed! It was drawn by Mario Del Pennino, inked by Isabel Escalante, colored by Heather Breckel whose work on IDW’s pony comics we love, and edited by Megan Brown who has edited many of those pony comics!
The design & production of the issue was by Valeria Lopez, the main cover art is by Sweeny, and the variant cover art is by Kaela Lash! Not only are Carol and Gwen are not impressed with the villain’s scheme to mind control a flash mob through the hacked social media, but the smart-alecky android is not impressed either! Jessica Drew (a.k.a Spider-Woman) makes another brief appurrance too, but I should not further spoil the plot!
I liked every aspect of the tale, from the plot, pace, dialogue, the action and the humor, to the poses, expressions, costumes, and FX, with the great scenery, typography, and the graphic narrative  of the sequential artI I Iove Marvel Action’s wonderful sense of fun, and is my current favorite comic book from either Marvel or IDW, although as a pony owner, I must admit to a bias for the comic book that Tara-chan wants to discuss-
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #96!

Tara-chan:
Arigato, nya! We love these comics which so faithfully capture the style and – and spirit of the animated TV series, but with the different strengths of the comic book medium, nya! it is hard to believe that the Friendship is Magic animated series started ten years ago, and – and that the pony comics have been around for the eight years, nya! They have the great stable of the artists, writers, editors, colorists and – and the letterers, nya!

They include this issue’s writer Jeremy Whitley, artist Tony Fleecs, colorist Heather Breckel, letterer Neil Uyetake, editor Megan Brown, and – and group editor Bobby Curnow, nya.  Heather and – and Neil have worked on almost every issue, and – and I think Bobby has worked on them all! Cover A is by Tony, cover B is by JustaSuta, and – and cover RI is by Matt Bellamy, nya! We have met Tony and – and Jeremy at the conventions!

Jeremy has written many other comics such as My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Vampirella, Sea of Thieves, Thor vs Hulk, Freedom Foundation, The Unstoppable Wasp, and he is the creator and the author of Princeless, Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess, and School for Extraterrestrial Girls! Anyway, Issue #96 is the 8th epurrsode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’s 10th season, as the animated TV series ended after its 9th season, nya.

Nypw for a taste of the plot, in which Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Trixie, Discord, Capper, Lyra Heartstrings, Sweetie Drops and – and Spitfire are aboard Captain Celaeno’s airship on the way to the xenophobic feline kingdom of Abyssinia which is ruled by King MeowMeow, nya! It is the bittersweet time for capper, who tells the tale of his former gang which was compurrised of Chummer, Shadow, Molly, Max and – and Admiral Fluffington, nya!

The diplomatic mission does not go well, but I should not further spoil the issue which has the great plot,  pace, dialogue, developments, poses, expurressions, compurrsitions, details, fonts, color and – and the graphic FX, so  I will give it  the “A” as in Applebuck, nya! That will conclude my pony report, and nyow here is Myayr -sama to discuss the
Beasts of Burden: Occupied Territory #1, nya!

Mary Nyan:
Hai! Created by author Evan Dorken (Milk and Cheese, The Eltingville Club) and artist Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother, At Death’s Door)  Beasts of Burden is the beautiful bittersweet fantasy tale of heroic friends who have investigated the purranormal incidents and defended their town from evil supurrnatural threats, but in this case those defenders are cats, dogs and other critters!
To most of its human residents, Burden Hill seems like the pleasant purretty town, but little do they know of their pets’ vigilance against wicked purredators! It is the very charming, Eisner Award – winning tale of wonderful characters, amewsing and thrilling  but sometimes sadly tragic situations. At the 2012 Heroes Con, Jill & Evan signed my copy of the Beasts of Burden hardcover!
Some of the tales were tales co-written by Evan’s wife Sarah Dryer (Action Girl). “Occupied Territory is the latest mini-series, which ocurrs after the events of the “Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men” mini-series. On the way back from their mission to thwart a cult in the town of in Derrington, the dogs bivouac at their bulldog friend Huxley’s rural home, which is owned Arthur, who can talk to dogs.
This tale was written by Evan & Sarah , illustrated by Benjamin Dewey, lettered by Nate Pekos, edited by Daniel Chabon, and assistantly edited by Chuck Howitt & Konner Knudsen, with the issue’s graphic design by Sarah Terry & Kathleen Barney, the digital technical wizardry by Chris Horn, he main cover  by Benjamin and the variant cover by John McCrea.
Appurring in this issue are Lundy, Gerda, Miranda, Dempsey, Brigid, Charlie, Huxley, Arthur, and the Fire Salamander, but the main plot is Emery’s tale of how she and her meowster Jonathan  and a dog named Mullins investigated a ghastly situation at Ogara Airbase in Japan in 1947! The plot & dialogue are captivating at the purrfect pace, whilst the art beautifully depicts the story, characters & scenery!

There are some violent, gory, scary incidents & ambience which might not be the cup of tea for everyone, but such things often occur in these macabre tales. I will give this tale of the Beasts of Burden the high purraise grade of the “A” as in Arthur and as in my anticipation for the next issue! I am done, so nyow I will turn The mew over to Meryl, who wants to tell us about
Kitty’s Cosmic Fashion Show!

Meryl:
Arigato! Created by Dan Parent and Fernadno Ruiz (whose Archie Comics we have loved), originally published by Chapterhouse and purresently published by Astrcomix, Die Kitty Die is the whimsically ribald occult tale of Kitty Ravencroft the sexy celebrity witch who can turn into a cat!
She has been targeted for the assassination by her own employers, who hope evilly that her demise will result in much publicity, increased merchandising, and more control for them over the purropurrty rights! Kitty’s evil cousin Katty is in cahoots with the conspurracy because she hopes to replace Kitty in the spotlight!
This frisky fun series is filled with sexy clothes, dark comedy, clever satirical homages and purrodies of Archie, Harvey, Marvel & DC comics, plus the cute pics of Kitty and her macabre friends in the lovely fashions amidst her travels through space and time!
This full color, 28 page (including 6 pages of ads) issue has whimsically purretty, pin-up pics which are full-page pics or two-page spurreads by Dan, Fernando, J. Bone, and our friend Andrew Pepoy, who was a special guest of The Mew in December 2008 and July 2010!
This issue was lettered by Taylor Esposito, edited by Tony White, colored by Jason Millet, Nick Caponi and Dan, and is available in the sexy variant covers.
It starts with the three pages by Andrew which depict Kitty in the beautifully sexy leopurrd purrint, goth, and steam punk attire!
Then there are Fernando’s three pages of amusingly alluring homages to Back to the Future, One Million Years BC, and the various supurr heroines! Nextly is the three – page fashion show  of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s appurral graced by Kitty and her co-stars, Mimi, Derek and L’il Satan!
After that are J. Bone’s full-page pics of winter garments, Heavenly ensembles, Hellish fashions & posh couture; the two-page spurreads of the  “Kitty Kat Pool Party”, and the lovely macabre outfits of the “Haunted Hallway”, “Monster Makeover”, and “Witchy Wall-Art”!
To top off this lovely issue are the full-page pics of he Kitty in the devilish and angelic attire, so I will heartily recommend this issue to the fans of those artists and the peppy cheesecake! That is all for our reviews, and nyow here are Petra and bunny to purrsent the latest
additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art!

Petra:
Arigato! Galleries 1-8 display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-5 display images by other folks with their purmissions, nya This includes illustrations and photographs, traditional and digital media, original creations and fan art, nya, Mike’s collaborations with other artists are interspersed amongst the various galleries, nya!.

Some of the images are sexy, and some might depict artistic nudity, but most are tame and none are porn, nya! On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full pics, nya!

Bunnii:
In Guest Gallery One http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest.html we are  delighted to display “Chelsea, Mel and Lilith” by our webmeowster Jamie http://jamiecotc.com! Rendered with the Metahuman Creation character creation program (for use with the Unreal Engine video games thingy), these lovely ladies are characters in Jamie’s web comic Clan of the Cats http://clanofthecats.com!
On the right is Chelsea Urania Kate Chattan, who is the heroic witchy were-panther and main protagonist of the comic, in the middle is her sister Corrine Elizabeth Melepomene Chattan (or just Mel, for short), the sexy tough merc were-leopard, and on the left is Lilith the famous alluring evil vampire demoness of the various myths!

Petra:
Then we are purroud to purrsentive five recent illustrations by Mike in Gallery Three http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery3.html, starting with more fan art of Star Trek’s M’Ress, who was introduced in the1973 animated Star Trek series, nya! “WarpCore CatNap” depicts the Meowrror Mewniverse’s Commeowdore Shiboline M’Ress asleep upon an antigrav sled by the meowtter / antimeowtter intermix chamber on Deck 15 of the Impurrial StarShip Enterpurrise NCC-1701(refit), nya.
This I.S.S. Enterpurrise’s Engine Room is darker than most ships’, because of the nocturnal purredilection of the Caitian crew, nya She likes to nap by the WarpCore because when its motor is running, the warmth and purring is rather relaxing and comforting, like contentedly curling up beside her momma, nya. Although Starfleet Regulations mewsually do not purrmit sleeping near the WarpCore, it is her purrogative as the captain, and anyone who disturbs her will get the Agonyanzer, nya!

Bunnii:
Nextly, “The Kohlinyan” purrodies the Vulcan scene from Mike’s all-time favoritest movie, Star Trek- The Motion Picture, or in this case, The Meowtion Picture, heehee!! This is in the Meowrror Mewniverse , wherein the Caitian Kholinyan ritual is for purrging the emotions. The Kohlinyan Club is one of the student clubs which Catets may choose from at Starfleet Acatemy on the planet Cait.
Here we see a Catet being awarded the Kohlinyan bell collar for completing that process! Allegedly, such Meowsters are able to resist the temptations such as the feather wand, phaser pointer, yarn ball, catnip, birds, mice & bugs, but unfortunately presently the club has not yet met its membership quota, and it is in jeopardy of losing its meeting room if they cannot recruit more members!
Petra:
“Welcome to my Purrlor” depicts our friend Raven Daniels, a Native American Nimerigar Elf of the Shoshone Tribe, who might appurr to be 20ish, but she was born in Caspurr, Wyoming on 2 Apurril, 1951 (Aries in year of the rabbit) and recently celebrated her 70th birthday, nya! She is the Gaianistic pansexual cisgender female with the Fae + blood type, 160 IQ, and MBTI of ESFP;  she is 4’ 6” tall and weighs 70 lbs, with the athletic physique and BWH sizes of 28A-22-32”, nya.
She has Hazel eyes, Tan skin with many tattoos & piercings, six pack abs with the inny belly button, and has the short undercut Black hair of the fauxhawk coiffure with the shaved sides and the Purrple ombre, nya. She has the BA in jewelry design from the School of Design at Mew Hanover College, where she met our friend Hannah who has the BA in graphic design, nya! They co-own Feral ink, the island’s mewest tattoo & piercing parlor which opened four months ago, nya!
Bunnii:
“Cattylac” is the alien biomechanical nekomusume who can transform into the dimensionally transcendental flying saucer which is capable of the faster-than-  light speed! She is the best friend of Gigi the genie catgirl, and they are among the many NPCs (non-player characters) in Mike’s semi-monthly tabletop fantasy RPG (role-playing game) “The Adventures of Nystia Nightshade”!
Cattylac has shiny metal skin and Golden eyes. She is 3 cat years old, weighs 100 lbs, and her BWH sizes are 30A-20-30”. She is 5’ tall in her bot mode, 5’ in diameter in her flying saucer mode, and rather fond of chocolate pumpkin pie a la mode! Mike drew this with Derwent pencils, inked it with Micron pens, scanned and then colored it with Photoshop CC on the Mac with the mouse!
Petra:
Lastly but not leastly for this months’ additions is this tastefully nude image of “Ciranya” who is another NPC in Mike’s game, nya! Ciranya might appurr to be purrhaps about 50ish, but she just recently celebrated her 4000th birthday on Apurril 18th, 2021, nya! Like her daughter Edelyn, granddaughter Gigi and grandson Brad, Ciranya is the ambidextrous Gaianistic pansexual nekomimi genie, nya.
She is 5 ‘5″ tall excluding her 5″ ear pinna; she weighs 125 lbs including her 34″ tail, and BWH sizes of 36E-25-36”, nya. She has the Black hair, tail and ears with the White tufts, Golden almond eyes, Tan skin, the inny belly button, various piercings, and the opurratic sopurrano singing voice of 12 octaves, nya. Her star sign is Aries, her blood type is G+, her I.Q. is 200, and her MBTI is the ESTP, nya!
The cat lady sings…

Ilyana:
Those sure are beautiful images of Chelsea, Mel and Lilith! I hope they will revisit us soon!

Beebee:
The darker engine room seems to suit the nocturnal purroclivities of M’ress’s felinoid crew!

Daytona:
I hope that the Kohlinyan Club can get more members and donations to save their room!

Melanakeami:
I especially like the cropped sheer fishnet attire that reveals Raven’s many lovely tattoos!
Nyanko:
Oh I think that Cattylac looks so playfully cute and has the lovely chrome eppurrdermis!
Nyoka:
The color and light greatly evoke the sensually mysterious ambience of the Ciranya pic!
Tara-chan:
Oh I especially like the color of the — RED HAWK, NYA!
(the distracted catgirl with her Nekon camera scampurrs after the bird)

Yvonne:
Ah… TARA- CHAN, NYA! There she goes again, nya!

Trini-chan:
I want to get a picture too! (scampurrs after Tara-chan and the bird)
Meryl:
There they go again, heehee!

Ellie:
The nature photo op must be served!
