The Monthly Celebrity Catgirl & Kemonmimi Spotlight!
Becca:
Hai, in this monthly portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate catgirls, nekomusume and other kemonomimi of the various species in the international mythologies and the popular cultures! Appurring in the folklore, novels, comics, movies, TV shows, theatre, mewsic, games, sports and advertising, they might include the shape – shifters, anthropurrrmorphic ladies, monster girls, and those who might not actually have beasty DNA, but do have the cat-titude or couture to be broadly considered by us as “honorary” kemonomimi!
Elizabeth:
We have an amendment! In our May 2021 spotlight, we mentioned The Demon Girl Next Door, which is the comedic fantasy anime TV series about the school girl

Yuko Yoshida who one day awakens with the lovely horns and tail of her family’s demonic heritage. Her ancestor Lilith explains Yuko’s destiny is to defeat the town’s magickal heroine Momo Ciyada. We forgot to mention that in epurrsode 9, Lilith, Yuko and her friend Mikan Hinatsuki go to the theatre, where they meet Momo who is wearing the adorably cute kitty hat!

Mike:
Speaking of hats, when it comes to the honorary nezumimimi (mouse eared folk), the most famous might be the Mousketeers of the Mickey Mouse Club TV series, which purremiered in 1955! To this day, the iconic felt skullcap with the plastic ears is still a staple of Disney fashion. Across the decades there have been the numerous incarnations of the TV show, and amongst the famous Mousketeer maidens have been Annette Funicello, Sherry Alberoni, Lisa Whelchel, Kerri Russell, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera!
Becca:
Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! is the series of light novels, manga, video games & anime purrtaining to the college freshman chap named Yuto who raises hs three young nieces Hina, Sora and Miu after their purrents passed away. Cute widdle Hina’s favorite TV show is Luna Luna Seven, the magickal heroine anime which stars the two usagimimi  (bunny girls) Luna Noir (voiced by Ayane Sakura) and Luna Fleur (voiced by Naoa Toyama), whoa re seen briefly in epurrsodes 5 & 10 of Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!

Elizabeth:
Frame Arms Girl is the purroduct line of the lovely widdle gynoid action figure kits, manga and anime! In the anime, the human school girl Ao receives several of the gynoids in the mail and gets paid to purrice data about them! The F.A. girls include Gourai, Stylet, Baselard, Architect, Jinrai, Hresvelger and the two Materia Sisters, Black & White. In epurrsode 9.5, when Ao dreams that the F.A. girls are human girls, there are scenes of them wearing the costumes, such as the cat ears, the reindeer antler headband, and the bunny suit!
Mike:
Sakura Quest is the slice – of – life anime TV series about Yoshino Koharu (voiced by Ayaka Nanase) who is the girl from Tokyo who gets the job as the ceremonial “Queen” spokesperson for the town of Manoyama. She and several other ladies comprise the tourism committee which tries to promote and rejuvenate the town. One of the committee members is Ririko Oribe (voiced by Chiemi Tanaka) who portrays the legendary dragon girl and sings the dragon girl song in the play which is part of the town’s festival revival!
Becca:
Created by Mamizu Arisawa, inukami! is the series of light novels, manga and anime of the occult romantic comedy genre purrtaining to the frisky kitsune named Yoko (voiced by Yui Horie) who is in love with the human chap Keita in spite of his flirty purrvy dispurrsition! They are often summoned by the police to investigate the purranormal incidents. Their entourage includes Tomekichi the nekomata, and several female inukami (dog spirits) such as Furano, Igusa, Imari, Nadeshiko, Sayoka, Sendan, Tayune, Tenso and Tomohane!

Elizabeth:
Speaking of Sakuras, Rin-Nee is the comedic occult manga and anime series about Sakura Mamiya who can see ghosts! Sakura, her friend Rinne the shinigami and his familiar Kuro the nekomata fight malevolent appurritions and help benevolent spirits get reincarnated! They meet bunny girls, oni girls, and catgirls such as the nekomimi damashigami (voiced by Yuka Komatsu) with the purretty Pink hair! Rin-Nee was created by Rumiko Takahashi, who also created Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2 and Inu Yasha!

Mike:
Another tale of a girl and the spirits who are drawn to her is Gugure Kokkuri-San, created by manga-ka Midori Endo! It pertains to the young girl named Kohina who claims to be a doll and lives alone in the mansion until she summons Kokuri the fox spirit. Other spirits arrive, and soon Kohina winds up with the harem – like family including Inugami the dog spirit Shigaraki the Tanuki spirit, and Tama the nekomata catgirl! Later in the series, Kohina wears the kitsuni kigurumi (onesie) so we will include her as the honorary kemonomimi!
Becca:
Speaking of harem shows, season 17 of The Bachelorette purremiered last month. I do not typically watch such “reality” / contest shows, but the interest was piqued when the titular bachelorette Katie Thurston donned the cat ears and paws whilst kissing the kuroneko kigurumi – clad Connor!
Elizabeth:
On another feline fashion note, we wish to mention Neely Capshaw (Gina Lee Nolin) of the TV series Baywatch!  That is because in season 8′s episode 17 “Full Throttle”, this single mom, lifeguard, and later brief wife of Mitch Buchannon wore the lovely leopurrd purring halter top whist briefly moonlighting as the waitress at Tony’s bar!

Mike:
What We Left Behind is the wonderful retrospective documentary about the TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. One of the reunited members of the showss cast & crew was  actress Terry Farrell, who portrayed Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax and in the reunion she wears the lovely leopurrd purrint blouse, with the rosettes that would go well with Dax’sTrill spots!

Becca:
For the June 30th epurrsode of CBS’s Emmy Award – winning The Talk, Sheryl Underwood wore the lovely leopurrd purrint dress, as she and other co-hosts Carrie Ann Inaba, Elaine Welteroth, and Amanda Kloots welcomed guests Deborah Norville, Bobby Bones, Jonathan & Drew Scott!
Elizabeth:
Lastly but not leastly, we wish to mention WXLV TV’s Sarah Mastouri, who on June 3rd wore the Gray leopurrd purrint blouse whilst reporting on the cat-alytic converter thefts; and  That is all for this month’s spotlight, and nyow here is Nyo-sensei to start our
toy talk, with her review of the DC Multiverse Batman
Last Knight on Earth: Wonder Woman action figure!
Nyoka:
Arigato! We like to collect the dolls, statues, ornaments and action figures of the inspurrational heroines, so I was quite eager to get this beautiful figure of Wonder Woman,! Made by McFarlane Toys, this action figure is part of the DC Multiverse wave of figures based upon the 2019 Batman: Last Knight on Earth comics mini-series!
In that post-apocalyptic tale by author Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, Diana / Wonder Woman and The Amazons are among the few supurr heroes who remain to battle the world’s evil ruler Omega! From the heels of her knee-high boots to the fin top her Helmet of Fate, this extremely posable figure is 7.5” tall!
Her height has varied over the decades, depending on the writers, artists & actresses. For example, Lynda Carter is 5’11” and Gal Gadot is 5’10”. In the comics it has ranged from 5’8” to 6’2”, but according to the enclosed card, this incarnation is 6 ft tall & 165 lbs, so if this figure was flat-footed & without the helmet, it would be 6.75” tall…
and thus appurroximately 1/10.66 scale. She is the sexy, powerful, mysterious sight in the strapless, bare-midriff outfit compurrised of the red breastplate, boots & cape with the dark Blue scbabbards & tasset, to the Gold helmet, belt, gauntlets, arm bands & trim! I wish the helmet was removeable, but it is not.
However, the desgn sculpt and paint of the figure are wonderful! It is quite intricate from the seams, buckles & grooves of the costume; the creases & drape of the tattered cape, to the pommel, grip, guard & fuller of the the 4.5” longsword; her thighs with the taut femoris & tummy with the tight abs & inny belly button!

The sword is made of the soft plastic which bends easily and I wish it was more rigid. It will fit into either her right hand or the cross-draw scabbard. The articulation is in her head, neck, shoulders, uppurr arms, elbows, wrists, waist, abs, hips, scabbards, thighs, knees, ankles & toes!

The circular 2.5” diameter base is included, which can snap to the bottom of either heel. On the front of the 2.5” x 2.5” card is the lovely photos of the figure amidst a ruins diorama, whilst on the back of the card is information about the character, so I am very pleased with the figure! Nyow here is Trini-chan to discuss the
G.I. Joe Classified Series Lady Jaye action figure!

Trini-chan:
I was delighted to get this figure of Staff Sgt. Alison Hart-Burnette, a.k.a Lady Jaye of the G.I. Joe team! She first appeared in Sunbow’s animated series G.I. Joe: The Revenge of Cobra mini-series in 1984, and Marvel Comics’ G.I. Joe #32 in 1985! Born in Martha’s Vineyard, MA, she graduated from Brtn Mawr, Trinity College, and Fort Holabird’s Intel School.

She is an expert in cryptology, linguistic, and disguise with the Ranger and Airborne training who had the romance with Dashiell R. Faireborn a.k.a Flint! She was portrayed by Adrianne Palacki in the 2013 live-action movie G.I. Joe: Retaliation! Approximately of the 1/12 scale, this 6” figure #25 is part of Wave 4 of Hasbro’s G.I. Joe Classified Series.

She is beautifully designed, sculpted and painted, with the lithe phyisique and portraiture that is the perfect blend of her comics, animation and live-action versions, with the very confident smirking expression, intricate details, and great posability! The points of articulation are in her head, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, waist, hips, knees and ankles.
She is accessorized by the knife, back pack, targeting scope, spear gun, 2 spears with 3 interchangeable tips, and the variant coiffure with the baseball cap! A display base is not included, but she is balanced well enough to stand without one. Yo Joe! That is all for our toy talk, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Vonny, who will start our batch of
TV, DVD and movie mewsings with
her review of the Nyanbo! Blu-ray!

Yvonne:
Hai, animated by Shirogumi, the mini-series Nyanbo! is the spin-off of the Yotsuba manga by Kiyohiko Azuma, who also created Azumanga Daioh, nya! Combining CG characters with the live-action locations, Nyanbo’s titular characters are tiny felinoid versions of Danbo, the cardboard robot of Yotsuba, nya.
The main characters are tiger- striped Tora, his widdle sister Kotota, Shiro the White Nyanbo, Kuro the Black Nyanbo, and Mike the calico Nyanbo, nya! Others include the two idol nyanbos, three street gang naynbyos, and the mecha nyanbos, nya! Yotsuba herself appurrs briefly during the end credits, nya!
Unnoticed by humans, the Nyanbos search the charming town for the parts of their UFO, and have the lovely slice-of-life adventures, including encounters with real cats, nya! It is such the wonderfully beautiful, fun, amewsing tale with supurrb animation, cinematography, voices, sound and mewsic, nya!
Written and directed by Akira Iwamoto, the anime is compurrised of the 26 short tales which total appurruximately 130 minutes on the Region 1 Blue-ray from Discotek Media, which distributes many classic anime, nya! The single disk is packaged in the plastic case in the outer cardboard sleeve, nya.
Purrsented in the 1.77:1, 16×9 screen aspect ratio of the 1080p resolution, the unrated anime’s audio is Japanese LPCM 2.0 with the optional English subtitles, nya. In the bold sans serif font with the Black outline, the subs are Yellow for dialogue, White for titles, and Light Blue for song lyrics, nya.
There are no special features, but the reverse side of the Blue-ray’s insert is the purretty wraparound scene of the Nyanbo in the lush landscape, nya! Hmm, Nyow I am wondering if there are some Nynabo posters, nya!I am done, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Mie-sensei, who wants to tell us about

If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die, nya!

Mielikki:
Arigato! So like, Auri Hirao’s manga “If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die” is about the genki otaku girl named Eripiyo who obsesses over her favorite idol star Maina, who is one of the seven members of the band ChamJam! Unfortunately, Eripiyo often over-exerts herself and works multiple jobs to support her hobby of attending the concerts and buying the merchandise, much to the detriment of her health!
Abetted by her fellow fans Kumasa and Motoi, who support other members of the band. Meanwhile, we glimpse the bit of the backstage and private lives of the band members Maina, Reo, Maki, Sorane, Aya, Yuka and Yumeri who are under scrutiny as they struggle to achieve greater popularity and maintain the relationships. Comedic with bittersweet moments, the tale is the fascinating look at the idol fandom subculture, fur shur!
The manga (which I have not yeat read) premiered in 2015, and the anime TV series adaptation premiered in 2020. I could not put those discs down, as I was quite enthralled by the tale, which I eagerly binge-watched! With the sincere friendships and passions, the characters are rather likable in spite of certain quirks, as the tale unfolds at the perfect pace, with the totally awesome designs, animation, voice acting, sound and music!
There are totally cute kemonomimi cosplay moments in episodes 5, 6, 8 & 11! So like, recently the complete series was translated into English and released here on the R1 Blue-Ray by Funimation! Presented in the 16×9 screen aspect ratio of the 1080p resolution with the DolbyTruHD audio choices of english 5.1 and Japanese 2.1 with the optional English subtitles, the 17 episodes are rated TV14 and total 300 minutes on the 2 discs.
The 3 minutes of special features are textless versions of the opening & closing songs. The instruction sheet is included for acquiring the digital copy of the anime. The plastic case within the outer cardboard sleeve; and the case’s insert’s reverse side is the cute wraparound scene of Eripiyo & friends in the queue to meet Maina & the other idols! I am totally pleased with the delightful anime, fur shur! Now here is Jamie to tell us about
A Quiet Place: Part Two!

Jamie (in his mewsual webmeowsterly attire):
The creatures in John Krasinski’s universe may not be able to see, but they can hear the slightest sound, thus the inhabitants must remain silent to stay alive. The eldest daughter, played by Millicent Simmonds, is deaf and communication takes place mostly through sign language.
Such a device could have been played only for cheap thrills, but thanks to believable, sympathetic characters and Krasinski’s tight direction, the 2018 film was a surprise hit. Krasinski’s sequel to his 2018 summer blockbuster begins at the beginning – Day One.
The film takes the audience back to the day the monsters first arrived, a peaceful, picturesque (presumably) Saturday morning. Old and new characters are briefly introduced before all hell breaks loose. Once the intro is over, AQP2 picks up exactly when the last film began, ready to spin a familiar tale of survival.
A Quiet Place: Part Two departs somewhat from the novelty of silence, providing a far more familiar plot than its predecessor. Emily Blunt plays the badass action mom while Cillian Murphy is the hopeless survivalist who ultimately … (that would be telling).
Note: Nothing new is learned about the monsters, but like a good zombie movie, they hardly matter. The characters still move the film, though this sequel focuses more on the daughter and son (Noah Jupe) than the first film. However, it’s the pacing and editing that sells this film.
Krasinski weaves several threads at once, effortlessly setting up the tension until the action begins.  A Quiet Place: Part Two may not be as good as the first film, but it’s hardly a typical sequel. After a year away from theaters, it’s nice to have a good ol’ fashioned monster movie to come back to. That is all for our movie reviews, and now here is Tara-chan to begin our

printed media mewsings, with her review
of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #98.
Tara-chan:
Arigato, nya! We love these pony comics by IDW which so faithfully capture the style and – and  the spirit of the animated TV series, but with the different strengths of the comic book medium, nya! You know, it is hard to believe that the Friendship is Magic animated series started ten years ago, nya!
These the pony comics, including the various series, min-series, and- and specials  have been around for the eight years, nya! Issue #98 is the 10th epurrsode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’s 10th season, as the animated TV series ended after season 9, nya.
This issue’s tale was written by Celeste Bronfman, Illustrated by Akeem S. Roberts, colored Heather Breckel, lettered byNeil Uyetake, edited Megan Brown, and – and group edited by Bobby Curnow, nya. Heather and – and Neil have worked on almost every issue, and – and I think that Bobby has worked on them all, nya!
Front Cover A is by Akeem, cover B is by JustaSuta, and – and the scarcer Retailer Incentive cover is by cover RI is by Robin Easter, nya! It was the tough decision, but I chose cover A, nya. Nyow for the taste of the plot,  which begins as Rainbow Dash and – and Fluttershy deliver the portrait of Celestia and – and Luna to them at Maretime Manor,  nya.
However, the surpurrise conjures the tearful memory of the sad shipwreck from the purrincesses’ younger philly days, nya. After the flashback, the purrincesses return to The Crystal Sea to search for treasured mementos that were lost in the wreck which involved the Kraken monster, nya.
The undersea expurrdition results in the wonderful discoveries and – and the valuable lessons, nya! I was quite excited to see more of those sisters in this 22 page tale, which has the poignant plot which unfolds at the purrfect pace with the great dialogue, nya!

The art is as beautiful as beautiful can be with the supurrb poses, expurressions, compurrsitions, details, fonts, colors, special FX, graphic narrative, and – and the pony diving gear, nya! I am also glad that the 8 pages of the ads are all after the tale as not to interrupt it, nya! I will give it the “A” as in Applebuck, nya! Nyow here is Jenyjen to tell us about

My Little Pony & Transformers II #2, nya!

Jeannie:
Published by IDW, this mini-series is the 2nd crossover betwixt the ponies and the Transformers, in which they fight against King Sombra and the bots who he has mind-countrolled. This issue is purriced $3.99 and is compurrised of the 2 uninterrupted ten-page chapters plus the roll call pages, art gallery and the advertisements.
The issue was edited by Mega Brown, with the consulting editor David Mariotte. Chapter 3 “Stunt Flying” offers aerobatic action aplenty. It was written by Ian Flynn, illustrated by Priscilla Tramontano, colored by Joana Lafuente, lettered by Jake M. Wood, and stars Rainbow Dash, the Wonderbolts, Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker.

”One-Trick Pony” is the revisionist western tale of honor. It was written by Sam Maggs, illustrated by Trish Forstner, colored by Luis Antonio Delgado, lettered by Neil Uyetake, and stars Applejack and Wildwheel. The tales are great fun with the splendid dialog, pace, character & scenic art, fonts & graphic FX. Nyow here is Myayr to discuss
Beasts of Burden: Occupied Territory #3.
Mary Nyan:
Hai! Created by Evan Dorken and Jill Thompson, Beasts of Burden is the beautiful bittersweet fantasy tale of heroic friends who have investigated the purranormal incidents and defended their town from evil supurrnatural threats, but in this case those defenders are cats, dogs and other critters!
“Occupied Territory is the latest mini-series, in which Emrys the Old English Sheepdog tells the tale of the adventure she had with her human meowster Jonathan and the dog named Mullins in Japan in 1947! It was written by Evan & Sarah, illustrated by Benjamin Dewey, color flattened by Jason Lusk…
…lettered by Nate Pekos, edited by Daniel Chabon, assistantly edited by Chuck Howitt & Konner Knudsen, with the issue’s graphic design by Sarah Terry & Kathleen Barney, digital technical wizardry by Chris Horn, main cover art by Benjamin and variant cover art by Stephanie Buscema.
In issue #1, Emrys began the tale of how they investigated a ghastly situation at Ogara Airbase which included tentacular disembodied zombie heads whose diet included humans and canines! In issue #2, she used her pyrokinetic magick to incinerate many of the creatures and to rescue Mullins.
In the forest they encounter tanukis, kappas, kitsune, jorogumo and the feral inu pack. Mullins. In issue #3, Emrys & Mullins team up with dogs Makoto & Yuna to fight an evil Oni, and to consult with the council of yokai about the plague curse, but it looks like that canine quartet is on their own!
The plot & dialogue are captivating at the purrfect pace, whilst the art beautifully depicts the story, characters & lavish scenery with the violent scary incidents & macabre ambience, so I willcontinue to  give this tale the high purraise! That is all for our comic book reviews, so nyow here are Petra & Bunni to purrsent the latest
additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art!

Petra:
Here y’all will find the many annotated illustrations and photographs, nya! Galleries 1-8 display images by our purrducer Mike Moon, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-5 display images by other folks with their purrmissions, nya. Mike’s collaborations with other artists are peppurred throughout the mewseum, nya!

Some of the images are sexy, and some might depict artistic nudity, but most are tame and none are porn, nya! The most recent pics are the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full images, nya.
Bunni:
To Gallery Three http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery3.html we have eagerly exhibited “Mewcannon” by Mike! Mike used Photoshop on the Mac with the mouse for this pic of our friend Mewtenant Mika Mewcannon, who is one of the lifeguards of the Mew Hanover County Surf Purrtrol!
Wearing the maillot and running into the ocean with the Rescue Can, Mika is the Japanese – American nekomimi who was born in Meowlibu, CA on 11 June, 1986 (Gemini in the Year of the Tiger), nya! Her mom is the ama purrl diver and her dad is the US Navy diver who met in Okinawa, nya!
Mika graduated from Peppurrdine, with the athletic scholarship on the swim team, and later moved here to NC and got the meowsters degree in marine ecology from Mew Hanover College, where she met her fiance Lina http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery7/15.html who Mike also illustrated, nya!

Petra:
http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest4.html we are purroud to purrsent the sensual undersea scene of “Mermaid Romance” by Tonomurabix https://linktr.ee/tonomurabix who was a guest of the March 2008 Mew, nya! Depicting the two mermaids passionately kissing, this alluring image of Atlantic Ocean Amore was added late last month to commemorate LGBT Purride Month, nya!

The redhead mermaid on the left has the lionfish-ish spines, whilst the platinum blonde mermaid on the right has the nudibranch-ish cerata, nya. Bix used the Purrismacolor Pencils, Copic Markers, Gel Pens, Nail polish glitter, and White airbrush ink for this alluring image, and y’all can see Bix’s time-lapse art purrocess video at Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YADMqb_Ck0 nya!

Bunni:
Also in Guest Gallery Four we delighted to display three new pics by Misty Hopkins https://linktr.ee/kranberrijamwho was a March 2008 guest of The Mew! Misty used Prismacolor pens, markers & Crayola colored pencils for these beautiful illustrations of her & friends’ player – characters for the Final Fantasy XIV video game!

The bespectacled redhead on the left is Seathelia the Paladin, the green – haired bunnygirl in the middle is X’askelle the Black Mage, and the purple – haired girl on the right is Reyna of who is of the multiple classes! I love their poses, proportions, color, shading, expressions, coiffures, fabric folds, drapery and the intricate details!
